Great to have
I bought this because I have the original from all those years ago, I haven’t opened it because I collect records but if anything it’s a great talking piece

Quality could be better.
Great album let down by the pressing. Surface sounds (scratching and pops) on both sides. This is the 2nd one I’ve had, first one got sent back as faulty. My original 1989 copy is in better condition. I have, however decided to keep this one as it’s the silver edition and feel I will never get a copy that I find suitable.

Was very excited about this release. This was arguably madonnas most accomplished period. She had transcended teeny bop terrain and was on the precipice of going to a porn convention and never fully coming home. This is madonna shooting her wad, so to speak. The material is superb, it rather famously describes the breakdown of her marriage to sean penn, her songwriting, along with the likewise rather wonderful pat leonard, explores themes of loss and longing in contrast to those of sensuality and empowerment, the results of which are really quite wonderful and her vulnerability seldom again seen. Oh father in particular ages nicely here with it's eerie intro and it's narrator in superb voice. Promise to try and spanish eyes are other highlights. It is tastefully rendered, thoughtful, provocative and it's accompanying tour an unprecedented victory. The artwork has been reproduced beautifully and was very nostalgic to hold in my hands again. It is more vibrant and purplish this time. There is no patchouli scent on the vinyl however and no slip describing how one might acquire AIDS like the one I had as a child. Aah the 80s.If I hadn't bought it solely for the poster (im in my forties) I would have been very disappointed indeed because the vinyl is warped and skips badly.Another thing that confuses me is the use of metallic vinyls. They Include minute particles that create alot of surface noise which is totally impractical. This is then a novelty release which will have to suffice until rhino pulls its finger out and gives us the reissue treatments it promised us five years ago.I'm hoping for a lavish four disc affair with demos, 12" versions, a blu ray and unseen photos of her dancing to Prince in her swishy purple top....I may be rather disappointed.Until then, buy this banger on black vinyl and save your pennies, because it is not at all like a prayer as the sticker states.
