Excellent Resource for Gardeners
This book explains botany is easy to understand vocabulary while introducing botanic terms to the reader. Important botanists past and present are introduced in sidebars to enhance the reader’s appreciation of the importance of botany and plant science to human well being. I suggest this book to my adult botany students, none of whom have scientific literacy.

Informative with Gorgeous Illustrations
I moved from a Manhattan apartment to a house in a mid-sized city six months ago. The house is on a double lot and the previous owners were retirees who kept an award-winning perennial garden that I inherited. This book has been AMAZING for helping me to understand how my new hobby works. The writing is clear, with frequent inset boxes relating the botany to the gardening, and the illustrations are a delight. Love reading a few pages before bed.

Botany for Gardeners
Nice book. Well written, but that is to be expected from the Royal Horticultural Society. Gets a little technical but quite understandable. Well illustrated. has a prominent place on my bookshelf.

A good, nice-looking book that's underwhelming in some respects
The font-size for the book's text is laughably small, almost nonpareil small (6 pt ≈ 2.117 mm), I have books with similar dimensions that have much more legible text, even the text is a shade of grey and not proper black, that said, the book is nicely bound, it's filled with some concise - yet great - information & the illustrations are beautiful; the contents of this book can easily make a beginner in this topic a well-versed gardener.P.s.: The nonpareil remark was somewhat hyperbolic, but, still, keep the text's size in mind, it's legitimately the worst aspect of this marvelous book.

A really accessible, well-written study aid
I've gone back to college as a mature student to study horticulture and I've sourced a range of different reading materials to support my course- particularly the plant science elements of it. Some I've not gotten along with particularly well as they're *too* bogged down in scientific information and overly complex, assuming the reader has more than a basic understanding of cells/plants/plant functions etc. I genuinely didn't think the plant science information was going to stick in my brain AT ALL.Happy to say that this book is different- it's written in an engaging way and has really useful information about famous botanists too, to break up some of the more technical/complex chapters, which I found interesting. The plant science aspects are actually understandable for someone like me, who passed GCSE science over 20 years ago!Going to give this one a couple more re-reads before my theory exams. Would recommend to gardeners who want to know more about plants generally, and definitely to fellow horticultural students!

Exterior defects
I received the book today, and I have seen that it has several defects on the cover. It's not a big deal, but if I get to know it, I don't pay the price for a new book when it looks used.
