Q: This is far an away the most expensive option oz/dollar i've been able to find on amazon. Is there a reason for this?

My experience is the quality of mold you get in return. You literally get what you pay for these days with most anything. I've used cheaper silicone mixes and I've found them difficult to set properly unless poured thick, or demolding an object often lead to some damage to the new mold. Air bubbles no matter what I did was also an even bigger issue. With this mix, I made perfect molds. I had ZERO AIR BUBBLES with every pour. On one mold, the only issue I found and was able to correctly with ease was a small one inch area was still sticky after cure time. I simply took a dash of baby powder and dusted the area. Then washed it w reg soap and water and it was gone leaving no extra impression to transfere for my new castings. Try it. I know if you have used other silicone mold casting, there's an obvious reason your looking at another brand and it's because your not satisfied. You will be with this.

Q: can you bake in the oven

No, once you mix the two parts it starts to harden. It’s fairly quick
