Recommendation: How does good test automation work
The book "Test Automation Engineering Handbook" by Manikandan Sambamurthy provides a very practical introduction to the complex topic of test automation. After an introduction, a look at the various aspects of a test automation strategy and how to choose the right tools and frameworks, the focus is on the following four parts with concrete code examples:1. Test automation for web applications with Cypress2. Test automation for mobile APPs with Appium3. Test automation for APIs with Postman4. Test automation for performance tests with JMeterEven if trivial basics are explained in some places (e.g. how to use git, how to setup VS code, how to install node) the following parts were valuable for me:- Test automation metrics (effectiveness, coverage, stability, success rate, manual test effort, etc.)- List of criteria for evaluation and limitations of test automation tools- Concrete automation examples with source code on GitHub- Common Anti-Patterns and Pitfalls for test automationOverall, this book is recommended for anyone who wants to get into the full breadth and depth of test automation.
