Theses guys are good, I managed to propagate four different sets of rootstock from my older citrus and stonefruit trees using these on the suckers at the bottom of the trees. (Orange, Plum, Peach and Apple). The fact that the balls are black makes it hard to see whether or not the roots are starting to build, but that's kind of obvious from the get-go.They work well, I didn't have any failures with the root balls getting started. I know some reviews stated they had to use the zipties to keep the balls shut, but mine were fine with just the hinge that is built into the grow ball. The only thing I'd say is leave a little divot in the soil at the top of the ball to ensure that you can easily water it. If you dont leave a little bit of room the water will take forever to actually drain down into the root ball.

I would have given a 5 star if there were any way to close them except using a zip tieI like to peek inside to see the root progression before cutting - I am currently using two of those thingys and it seems to work and give me access.

These rooting balls are top notch & super east to use. They're made really well & hopefully I'll be able to reuse them next year.

Is black so you can’t see if the roots are developing. But it’s black so it protects from the sun. If it’s what you need, it is perfect for smaller branches.

I'm not sure why no one in the reviews hasn't mentioned this, but the sizes advertised on these pods are way off. I purchased the medium size and the illustration shows they're 3.3", but they are actually just shy of 2.5". Over 1/2" smaller than what they state which is pretty significant to be that far off.

Worked well on butterfly bush. Not on hydrangea,skip laurel,wisteria, or roses.

The product and concept are awesome. I have rooted honeysuckle, passion flower, fig vine and English Ivy. The zip ties that come with it are not sturdy and break easily. Had to get my own zip ties.
