Q: can you not put the arms on. are the arms integral to the chair? i hate having arms at the sides. so many are complaining they don't stay in place

No, the arms are not integral to the structure of the chair. But if you do Not put them on, and someone falls out of the chair and gets hurt (yeah - we live in that kinda world, now), you cannot go after the vendor or manufacturer. That's the only reason why you would "need" to put the arms on if you prefer not having them. However, if they are multiple plates/pieces inside the chair, the arm 'bolts' may still need to be put in, to secure/bind together anything inside the seat. If they designed it that way. Doubtful, but you never know. I'd at least put the bolts in and snug them pretty good.

Q: How wide is the seat within the arm rests? (No vague responses. Please provide an exact measurement).

The inside of the arm rests are 22in apart. The seat itself is 24in wide.
