Q: Are these long scale to work on a fretless P-Bass?

According DR site, their strings fit up to 37'' scale. Two versions of Sunbeam: Scale Length: 37 3/4" Short Scale: 33 3/4"

Q: Do these bass strings really have low tention?

Tension vs Flexibility. They have have a similar overall tension as other brands, but they seem more flexible to me, especially compared to hex core strings or Boomers.

Q: Good for short scale bass, detuned? playing an older gibson, dropped to db, so need a string that doesn’t get too flabby. would medium gauge work?

these strings are famously pliant, focused and perfect for fretless. I can't imagine you could detune them. And DR would not respond to my request to make custom Sunbeams w thicker gauges. Circle K strings are made specifically for detuning so do check them out. I have used them and they are a high quality string and their gauges are just about ANY combo you could imagine. You can get an E string thats .190 , you could probably tune it to Z. They are incredible.
