Great starting drive for new computer or just for a little extra space on and old one.
In general this HDD (hard disk drive) does everything I need it too for a first HDD. I recently built a new computer for my brother-in-law and this a decent drive for an OS (operating system) drive. From there if space becomes an issue I plan on getting a bigger secondary HDD (2-4 terabyte) for media backups, games, etc. I mainly recommend something like this for an OS drive if money is part of the issue, if money is not an issue than go with SSD (solid state drive) for an OS. The reason I would prefer SSD's for an OS is that an SSD will most likely never crash, at least I personally do not know of one crashing yet, but anything is possible. However, I have had several HDD's crash on me, and yes when it's your OS drive it's a pain, so if you have the money go for a SSD for your OS drive.Remember that you can not just mount in box, hook up power and SATA cables, start it up and all is well. You will first need to partition the new hard disk drive preferably in an already operating computer before it will be usable. There are several easily accessible videos all over the internet that can help walk you through the process, just make a Google search for something like "setting up new HDD" and watch a few videos to remind yourself (or to learn how) to partition a new HDD or SSD.PS - Your OS drive does not need to be huge only 100-250 GB would be fine, but a little more never hurts either. Good luck and have fun

Works Great INSIDE Dish Network VIP722k PVR
I have a Dish Network VIP722k PVR that I purchased the external antenna tuner myself and the hard drive failed and caused the unit to boot loop. This hard drive cost LESS and was faster to receive than doing a PVR replacement with Dish and getting another used unit that may be in worse shape than mine.Opened PVR and simply unplugged old drive and plugged this one in and on next boot it recognized it and self-formatted and just worked! There is a VERY small list of compatible drives and this is one of them.

Stores HD Video Recordings from My Satellite Receiver...Economically
The TV channels for my home arrive via DISH satellite service. Having recently added a receiver for my newly-purchased TV, I wanted to take advantage of the receiver's video (DVR) recording capabilities. To do that, I needed to install an external, self-powered USB hard drive. Most of the already-configured, USB plug-in hard drive offerings were priced between $90 and $100, but I was able to buy this hard drive and a self-powered USB enclosure for it from Amazon for about half that amount ($45.87).After installing this hard drive into my ORICO Toolfree USB 3.0 to SATA External 3.5 Hard Drive Enclosure Case for 3.5 SATA HDD and SSD [Support UASP and 12TB Drives], plugging the self-powered enclosure into the USB port of my satellite receiver and rebooting the receiver, this drive was automatically configured and formatted. The DVR capabilities of my receiver now work quietly and flawlessly. This hard-drive's 1TB of storage provides me with all the recording capacity that I need with the same HD resolution offered by the receiver.

Not the best for iOmega DVR
I got this as a replacement HDD for an iOmega external drive I use for a DVR that's on 24/7. Thought it would be a good match but the video during playback briefly freezes on occasion although the audio is seamless. When I rewind and payback the same segment, it doesn't happen again so the drive is recording the stream flawlessly, it's the playback that's the issue. I think it may be a problem with the drive controller on the iOmega which is a 5 year old device and may not be ideal for newer SATA-6 drives.

Not bad at all for $31.99 plus tax! Take a look at this...
Ive been using this in a DVR for a Zosi Security Camera System. So far no problems and it seems to work fine. Ive read a lot of reviews for this hard drive and they seem to be mixed. Some complained it died (failed) quickly after purchase, and some said it was dead before even installing it. Others said it worked fine, and reviews were in between good and bad. Well im not sure what your looking for, but for $31.99 plus tax it seems to do the job i need it to do. However...this is just sitting in my DVR and not being pushed to any limits, if you put it into another device and put stress on it then its possible it could fail due to working much harder. Im not a hard drive expert so do some research and see if it is appropriate fir the device you plan to install it into and the workload you plan to place on it. I hope this helps. Thank you and have a great day! (P.S. the price has gone up about $20 so don't hold it against me for saying it was $31.99 plus tax, prices fluctuate all the time on Amazon)

Seagate is OK, but this model is seriously flawed.
While I generally prefer seagate drives, I cannot recommend this model.I ordered two of the 500GB models. The first sent was the wrong size. The second failed in a bizarre way. I wrote a 500GB image to it (from another failed drive). I appeared to accept the image, but when I transferred it back to the target PC it showed as empty. It wrote out none of the information I wrote to it but claimed it did. I reimaged it again, and after writing a 500GB drive image to it now will not initialize correctly 50% of the time and simply dies and resets when read and writing about 10% of the way into the drive. That's mid platter, so this is not damage from shipping (which would cause entire platters to have sporadic reading, or to be unreadable).I've never seen the problem of claiming to accept data and not actually writing it before on any drive. There's something seriously wrong with the design of this drive that it was even possible for that to happen.I would really worry about total data loss as this drive starts to fail, since it gave total data loss while it appeared to think it was working perfectly.

I was looking a low priced, new HD to ...
I was looking a low priced, new HD to end a string of failing C:/ drives that I had. I was looking for something simple and basic, and this one seems OK so far. I kinda wished I had bought this drive 1st before trying to save $$ by buying used drives from a local computer shop. I plan on buying a few more so I can have 1 drive for Windows, anti-virus, firewall, etc - 1 drive for my games - 1 drive for the other programs, and maybe 1 or 2 more for back-ups.
