Q: Why does it have a drain hole?

In case of a short term or limited leak, a drain hole near the front of this mat has been provided so you can easily drain the mat without taking everything off of the mat. There is a raised piece surrounding the hole so that some water can accumulate before needing to drain the mat, maybe a quarter of an inch of water or so.

Q: What is the thickness of the actual mat? I have a water softener system under my sink with a tank!

May is thin silicone; maybe 1/8 to 3/32. Is effective for controlling small leaks if you open the sink regularly and effective at controlling “bottle” leaks.

Q: Can I bend it? Is it flexible? To be able to insert in the cabinet?

This is flexible and bends. I have a double sink standard size. I bent this around the opening and it fit perfectly

Q: With the hole for draining, how exactly does that work to contain the leakage?

The hole should be placed at the front of the under sink area close to your cabinet door. The hole has a silicone lip all around it just to just about the same height as the lip around the circumference of the mat. So, the hole without touching, it will not leak until the entire mat is about full. The hole is more for your convenience so if the mat is filling the mat can be lifted a little to drain into a bucket or other container. If the entire mat overfills it seems the hole does not really help.
