I t is obviously a common point of failure in certain HP plan printers, that the paper cutter stops working. Symptoms include a loud 'clack-clack' noise as the cutter travels, and eventually paper snarl-ups when the cutter stops cutting.A quick repair is to replace the cutter unit - but a genuine replacement cutter can cost $250 or more. If you are at all DIY-minded, remove the cutter unit and open it up. Chances are you will see that the white nylon gear that turns the cutter blades has split between two teeth.This copper replacement gear is the perfect answer, and will probably outlive the rest of the cutter assembly, so remember tor harvest it when you eventually replace the cutter unit.Assembly is easy - the gear simply slips over the cutter shaft - but take care to fit it the right way up. The gear is fitted with a one-way bearing with allows the cutter blade to turn on the cutter's outward journey, and not torn on the return trip. If you still get paper snarl-ups after fitting the new gear, chances are you have it the wrong way around.In summary, this is a great product to repair an otherwise fine cutter unit and save $200 on a replacement unit...
