Surprised!!!
When I opened the package I was very disappointed. The item looked cheap and was missing the glue. After charging both the receiver and the transmitter I tested inside and was so disappointed that I kept all the packaging to expedite its return. The next morning I used the item on a clogged underground drain …. It worked beyond all expectations… saved me hours of digging. It located a crushed PVC pipe 30 inches deep in clay and rock. Saved me hours of digging.I used shooting ear protectors over the headphones to hear the signal. Work great!Worth every dime … I could buy at 4x the advertised price.

Doesn't work as advertised
Doesn't detect on anything over a foot deep. Any kind of electrical or communication lines completely throw off the signal. Don't waste your money.

You get what you pay for. I bought this tool hoping it would help me trace underground drain lines where the ends of the drains were under the grass. I just received it and spent a few hours testing it and its limitations. The bottom line is, it worked well if the buried drains were roughly 15 inches or less below the grass level. Trying it on a line that was about 20 inches deep - a no go. In fairness, in the user manual it mentions a useful range of up to 50cm (19.7 inches). In Michigan where I live, it is common that drain lines are 18 inches or more deep so beware. It is a tool that takes some practice. For example, often the depth of a drain line varies, especially with irregular terrain. So, you can lose signal and some midpoint and then your lost and good luck finding the probe again. A two-man operation where one pushes the probe through as another follows the probe movement with the wand is best. This way you can at least map to the last good signal reading. It's also important to mention that buried "T" connections down the drain would be nearly impossible to snake the probe through. Think of these types of limitations.I'm keeping the tool because, for the money it is still useful for shallow depth and behind wall drain tracing. I conditionally recommend the tool given these limitations and the roughly $150 price. It's too bad the transmitter doesn't have a little more power. I understand and accept that if you pay $750, you get a tool that will locate deeper pipes.Mechanically the tool design is quite good. It pays to read reviews and one reviewer mentioned to use a garden house to push the probe line into, then push the assembly through the drain line. Correct! It's the only way I could feed the probe line through long lengths of drain line. The probe line spool is a very good design. The detector wand is intuitive and easy to use. The earphones do improve the user's ability to hear the signal beeps but often won't be necessary. One bad part of the design is the battery for the spool is not replaceable (wand battery is). For my use the tool will be in storage most of its life so if the battery was removable, it would be much better.

Don’t waste your money
Bought it thinking will work on double walls. Loses signal easily. Works well on clear surfaces. Not between pipes.
