Summer workbook
I plan on using this workbook over the summer with one of my grandkids. To help him retain what he has learned and be ready for next school year, his parents want him to do some light school work when he stays with me for the summer. He just completed first grade so this should all be review. Of course , I will be able to quickly identify if there are any gaps that need to be filled. Because of how this workbook is laid out, I think it makes an appropriate overview workbook. We have already been working through it a bit and we have found it best to cover a couple pages in each subject everyday. There is a nice variety of activities and it’s been user friendly to work through so far.

Good variety but only supplemental to a homeschool curriculum
I am impressed with the variety of activities and topics in this book for grade one. There is an English section, a math section, and a science section with a variety of topics and activities. Each section goes into advanced ideas for each topic. For example the English doesn’t just talk about verbs, nouns, and adjectives. It goes into possessive nouns, common nouns, and proper nouns. The math section covers addition subtraction, place values, time, and some geometry. The science gets a little bit more technical but I feel it is brief and really doesn’t go too much into depth.I know I will have to plan a curriculum around it to help introduce things like the water cycle because one page about the water cycle just doesn’t give enough information. However, it touches on many topics and will help you assess what your child actually has an interest in.I’ve been homeschooling my pre-K child for over a year and have used a few different types of these homeschool books. I do like that this has so many different activities because the exposure for learning is not as predictable and engages my child in different ways. Other books will introduce a topic but has the same three activities repeating throughout. It is both predictable and boring. This book goes beyond that and introduces word grids, puzzles, repeating patterns, Sentence creation, and drawing just to name a few. It really provides a good basis for starting elementary school.Overall, I feel like this book would be supplemental to the homeschool curriculum. It will definitely help introduce topics with engaging illustrations and activities but I don’t think it has enough pages to practice how much exposure a child will need to actually become competent with things like telling time, addition and subtraction, weather, or food chains.

Great for transitioning students
I got this book for my oldest daughter who is going from K to 1st grade. The material in this book is vast and will definitely introduce topics that may seem overwhelming at first but are still understood with some minor explanation. I love how it pulls concepts from kinder and applies them in an overall capacity While still advancing the farther into the book they get. I honestly love this book and it will truly be a helpful asset over the summer and throughout her next year.

Compared to 180 days series
This seems on par with the 180 days book series with the main difference being that the 180 days books are divided by subjects and this item is literally One Big Book. The questions in this book seem more age appropriate in that there more challenging questions whereas I felt that most questions in 180 days were too easy for my kids. One Big Book is more about exercises rather than individual problems to solve as in 180 days.My first grader can't do all the problems on his own as a lot of exercises need explanations. For example, there is one exercise that covers mirror ambigrams. It was fun for my child, but I had to explain to him how to form an ambigram. It's a good supplement as long as you don't mind explaining along the way.
