Q: Is the coating on this cage tough and durable?

I think it is, I my opion they save money on the gauge of the wire and the thickness of the cage posts. I have pacific parrotlets in mine, but they aren't really chewing on the cage. I've had cheap cages and they do start chewing on the coatings when they start to peal off, but after about a year there hasn't been any change in the cage material. It nice to be able to separate two birds, especially since one of the females is in heat right now.

Q: What is the cage lock like? Can a snap lock be used to make sure the cage door can't be opened?

There is no lock.Yes, snap locks or something similar would be required on all the doors.
