Q: is image clarity compromised looking through the HMD lenses with these protectors on? thanks

I have noticed no degradation of clarity with these.

Q: How should these be cleaned? I've been using alcohol wipes, but maybe that's not the best choice?

I've just been using the soft cloth, Tim. Using these lens protectors have made it easier to see, but lens flares, as well as smudges are still a chore.
