Q: What's the diameter of the rivets?

These include both 3.4 and 4mm diameter rivets

Q: Are they pure copper?

I have not done a metallurgical assay of the rivets so cannot attest that they are pure copper. Based on malleability they appear to be primarily copper.

Q: How do you get the washers hammered on? Do I use the holes on the side of the tool?

That is the purpose of the Holes. You can use a small diameter pipe 3/16 x 2" which works well also. I find the pipe easier to handle
