Temples of Deccan India: Hindu and Jain, 7th to 13th Centuries Hardcover – September 6, 2021

Lemme be unambiguous in my praise: this is likely the best visual reference ever published on the subject, and has instantly become not only my most favorite architectural art monograph in my personal library, but one of my favorite books, period."Temples of Deccan India: Hindu and Jain, 7th to 13th Centuries" is the quintessence of what an (historical) architectural art monograph should be: spectacular photographs; academic captions, summaries, and overviews; supple, stitched binding; high quality paper stock; and boasting the truly ingenious inclusion of vector diagrams of the temples' x and y axes on their respective introductory pages. More beautiful even than Michell's "Islamic Architecture of Deccan India", to which this is a beautiful companion piece.My sole note regards the paper: the former volume is printed on glossy stock, and while "Temples of Deccan India" is printed on equally high quality paper, it uses semigloss stock, so its images have roughly 20-30% less color saturation and overall visual "depth" than those of its predecessor. Given the overall quality of the images though, and that this effect is dramatically lessened by using bright, diffuse, daylight-spectrum light to read by (which I always do), this is close to a non-issue.This is now one of my most prized books; as you can see, I've already copiously annotated it (and applied a Brodart dust jacket protector after stretching the binding). I'll be paying close attention to all of Michell's future work.

Such a beautiful book ! In depth description of the architecture and history of the Deccan temples with highest quality and clarity matt finish photographs. Very comprehensive and simply beautiful ! Its always such a pleasure to see high quality books in print, pictures and content. I'm grateful to the authors for bringing this book into the world .
