Q: does this shower head work with normal water pressure shower - i.e. no pump

Yes. I have it plumbed in on a 2.5bar system with 15mm hot & cold feed and it is fine. Flow rate is controlled by themostatic mixer valve. It doesn't take the skin off your back if you like an invigorating shower, but it is more than adequate.

Q: The fitting on this head is slightly too large for my pipe. I don't know what size fitting my pipe is to buy a convertor, can you advise?

This shower head connector is a universal G1/2 inch

Q: Would this be ok outside?

Yes I am certain that the shower head would work okay outside as lond as your pipe work is correct and the water pressure is suitable.
