It works!
First, for those claiming it doesn't work in direct sunlight, or they can't make calls or text, read what you are buying as there are different versions and if you buy the WIFI only version and then can't make calls or text, that is really on you and not Amazon or Samsung. When it comes to direct sunlight, it works just fine. The key to anything is reading the manual and then understanding how to use the tablet. Turn off the auto-brightness because that is more useful for low light than bright light. Next, turn the brightness to maximum and you'll be able to see the display clearly even with the sun shining directly on the tablet. Now here is something you need to pay attention to. It doesn't matter who makes the tablet, what brand, what kind of screen etc, if you leave a tablet out in direct sunlight when the temperature is hot as in the warmer months it isn't going to last very long, period. There is no way around it because the tablet can get hotter than it was ever designed to work in and you can damage ANY tablet screen by leaving it in the sun. It's common sense and your smartphones will also be damaged if you do that, even the very expensive models. This tablet just works, the screen is bright and the fingerprint reader is so helpful. The stylus is something that sets this apart from all the others, it's integrated and is smooth and accurate. Drawing and writing is a pleasure with none of the chicken scratch that the thick rubber eraser type styluses present. It's rugged too. I use it on a motorcycle as mapping/GPS and through many thousands of miles with all the vibration, weather and yes, direct sunlight it just works. There is no tablet made, it doesn't matter who makes it that will survive any kind of drop onto concrete. Even military grade tablets need bulky shock isolation cases to keep them working where getting dropped is routine. If you plan on dropping the tablet often (how do so many people drop phones and tablets anyway?) then just get a rubber bumper type case and solve your slippery fingers problem.I've had two of these, the other was the smaller version and is still going strong. I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

Great tablet
Bought this for my destructive preschooler. So far it’s been really good. It’s rugged enough to go through all of his drops and spills a vent made a dent in it thus far. It is fast enough to keep up with his short attention span too, seamlessly switching between apps and running games like a dream. I cant say much about the use of the pen as we haven’t given it to him (didn’t want to lose it). But I can say so far this is a rugged reliable tablet that can stand up to everything my kid can throw at it.

So far, so good
I found and bought this tablet for a specific use: controlling a sound mixer. I do this inside and outside, and this past summer, using my previous tablet, I discovered that high temperatures (95-97F, in shade) made it get strangely hot in my hands as well as losing its battery life far faster than in the past. So, this Samsung "semi-ruggedized" and reasonably-priced tablet is undergoing long-term testing before I buy a second one. It's a bit heavy, but it has run for 10 hours straight so far (in shade and mild temperature), and that's the kind of lifetime I need. More experience will be needed to evaluate the display and high temperature performance.

Works great and texting works also..
Great tough little tablet, just what I needed for construction work, takes a beating and keeps on ticking( like the old Timex commercials). There was one reviewer that said it doesn't text(sms) but it does , a bit complicated procedure to set up but it works great. Big enough to see emails , text, and great for GPS maps in car. A bit more expensive but for the durability ( dirt, dust, drop proof, water resistant)well worth it. But not for everyone, this is a field tablet to be thrown on the dashboard, or wherever, not for just office work.

Very nice tablet
It's a very nice tablet, but not quite what I was looking for.I was hoping to find a sunlight-readable tablet that was effective outdoors in the direct sunshine. Unfortunately, the screen of this tablet acts like a mirror, reflecting the background, washing out what's showing on the screen. It works great in the shade, but not in direct sunlight. Perhaps what I was looking for is impossible. It's definitely rugged, and appears to be seriously water-resistant (although I haven't tested that). It has a huge battery, which gives it excellent battery life. I was a bit surprised at how heavy it is, but that's reasonable considering the ruggedness, and the power required for long battery life with a very bright screen.

Great solid tab for the money
Works amazing in every way. Solid well made tab. The only flaw or maybe it is just me. The back buttons do not light up, making it difficult to find buttons si ce the buttons are black like the screenOther than that, well worth the money

Fantastic rugged device
This military-grade tablet effortlessly blows the competition out of the water, thanks to its large and crisp display, fast processor, durable design, and user-replaceable battery. An added surprise is the impressive audio quality: whereas other mobile devices often have tinny-sounding speakers, the Galaxy Tab Active Pro produces a rich sound with deep bass and clear treble. While it's probably not as good as a dedicated speaker, the audio is worlds apart from my Galaxy Tab Active 2 and my smartphone.

LTE (UNLOCKED) still doesn't allow call & text on enabled cell plan
Bought the "Galaxy Tab Active PRO 10.1" LTE (UNLOCKED)" version. LTE data works fine, but cellular calling & texting not enabled. Why? Samsung support unable to figure out issue & keeps redirecting to linking with another phone for linked calling & texting through another device. What's the point in buying a separate cellular line for the Tab Active Pro to require linking with another device to make calls/texts? This is a misleading product to offer LTE support & not clearly state that cellular calling & texting is not included or limited in some way.Returned item as defective.
