The polishing cloth has the cleaning ingredients impregnated in the white cloth. These ingredients get released every time a piece of jewelry is polished. Washing the cloth will remove the remaining cleaning ingredients, for that reason it shouldn't be washed. Something important to know: The black stains left in the cloth are the tarnish and the contaminants that had been removed from the metal. The polishing cloth keeps cleaning even having the black stains. You can keep using it as long as you see your pieces getting shiny. The gray part of the cloth is untreated and you can wash it and keep it to buffer plated pieces of jewelry or soft porous stones (good for eyeglasses and cell phones too!) When the polishing ingredients wear out and the polishing cloth's performance is not as good, then it will be time to replace the cloth. I hope this information is helpful. Can it be used on silver plated items?

Use the gray cloth for silver-plated items. This outer cloth is untreated and removes oil and dirt without affecting the plate finish. The white flannel has the cleaning ingredients and should not be used on plated metals.

This item says it’s for gold, but the instructions that came with it specifically said not to use it on 14k gold. Can you clarify which is accurate?

The instructions say this cloth “cleans, shines and protects silver, gold (14k and 18k), and platinum.” It says “do not use on 24k gold, ivory, pearls, opals…and other soft or porous stones.” I have wonderful results using this cloth on silver and 14k.

Can this be used on a Tiffany bracelet that is both sterling silver and turquoise color enamel?

Use the cloth only in the areas that are free of enamel. If the cleaning powder touches the enamel, it won't hurt it. Just rinse and dry afterward. Buffing the enamel part with the white cloth is not advised.
