Good purchase.
A good small safe that'll hold your valuables that you don't want easy access to. Heavy but not to heavy to move around.

A secure, locker-style safe that's easy to use
I looked at so many safes in this price range. Each safe seems to have its pros and cons. This Honeywell Model 5107 provides so many great features, if you're looking for a secure, locker-style safe that's easy to use and maintain.Dimensions / weight: The exterior measures 17" from front to rear, 15" from left to right, and 21.5" from top to bottom. It weighs 55 lbs. The safe can be carried away by a determined thief. The product comes with pre-drilled holes for both floor mounting and also wall mounting, meaning that the holes are available at both the bottom and the rear of the safe. All the hardware, including nuts and bolts are wrapped in a small plastic bag. The interior sizes can be estimated by subtracting 1/4" (one quarter of an inch) from each of the exterior dimensions listed above. You can accommodate a 16.5" necklace laying from front to rear, a 14.5" file folder laying from left to right, or a 21" laptop laying from top to bottom. The interior shelf fits securely in welded grooves and will bear significant weight; yet it can still be removed to accommodate oversize items. The $200 range will usually get you 1.5 to 1.8 cubic feet of space. This Honeywell offers 2.81 cubic feet of space and is much larger in size than other models in this price range. This is accomplished because there is no loss of space due to fireproofing or waterproofing insulation.Fireproofing and waterproofing: This safe has no fireproofing or waterproofing. Based on customer reviews the fireproof and waterproof safes in this price range have a moisture problem. The humidity rises inside the safe causing your coins to rust, your documents to mold, and your electronics to fail. This safe is simply a steel anti-theft locker, and that means no issues with moisture and erosion.Security: The YouTube videos show how easy it is to get into Sentry and FirstAlert safes. On this Honeywell, there are no exterior hinges to pry. There is no "combo reset" button on this safe. The door must already be unlocked and held open to reset the combination. Also, you can just use the included keys and bypass the keypad if you wish. There are two bypass keys that insert near the keypad. Remove the small, rubber cap on the safe door and insert the key. These keys will open the safe even without the combination. If your keypad fails, or your batteries run dry, you can still access your valuables immediately. The two bypass keys are quite long at 3" inches in length, and may not be a welcome addition to your standard key ring. The keys are very sturdy, though, and I do not foresee breakage or stripping of the teeth occurring in the future.Locking mechanism: Two matching, 3/4" steel bolts will keep any opportunistic, "smash and grab" thief out. But, a determined thief with a crowbar, a sledgehammer, and a few minutes to spare can open this safe door. This Honeywell is very similar to our old high school gym lockers; but now we have 3X the heavy gauge steel, two steel locking bolts, and a million possible number combinations. Very secure; but by no means unbreakable. This is ideal if you are looking to secure valuables from opportunistic thieves, roommates, maintenance people, and the generally curious.Keypad and combination: The door was unlocked upon arrival. If it wasn't, I could still enter my safe with the two bypass keys. First, you install the batteries, which are on the inside door of the safe. The battery compartment is very sturdy and will prevent the batteries from falling out as you open and close the door. I used 4 new Energizers instead of the generic batteries that were included. The keypad comes with a temporary combination. You enter the temporary combination and the door locks. Enter the combination again the door unlocks. The keypad will display "open" for unlocked and "closed" for locked. With the door held ajar, you choose and enter your own combination. The combination can be any number between 3 and 6 digits. Press "lock" to install the new combo. This new number will erase the factory combo completely. You cannot open the lock with the factory combo once a new combo has been chosen. You can only install one combination on this safe. No multiple combinations are allowed. If you input the wrong number 4 times, the safe will display "hold5"and will initiate a five minute countdown. You cannot use the keypad during this time, but the two bypass keys will still open the safe door immediately. The keypad is set to an audible beep with each number chosen, but this can be set to completely silent operation by pressing the "clear" button. This toggles between "beep on" and "beep off." If you press the "lock" button, it will display the battery power as "high" or "low."Hardware: Here's where the Honeywell loses one star. The scratches and the shelving. The item was well packaged, but still the exterior of the safe had scratches. These scratches actually removed the black coating and exposed the grey metal underneath. The interior shelf, which is removable, was unwrapped and loose inside of the safe. This resulted in a heavy metal shelf digging into the interior walls of the safe during transport. There are an array of scratches on the inside of this safe. Why Honeywell? Why can't you tape the shelf in place during the initial packaging; or at the very least cover the shelf in protective bubblewrap? The exterior and interior scratches on the unit are cosmetic only, and do not compromise the security of the safe itself. A piece of very thin carpet is included and is cut to fit at the bottom of the safe. The removable shelf has no carpeting. With this interior size, I would like to see two more shelves included, as well as several more locations to place these shelves. This model provides only one shelf and only one shelf location. The features on this locker-style safe are five star. I detract one star due to the lack of shelving options and the thoughtlessness in packaging this item. Be safe!

that would have been a mistake because this is a very nice security cabinet for its price
I almost didn't buy this because of the mixed reviews, that would have been a mistake because this is a very nice security cabinet for its price. Lots of room and fairly secure but still not a true safe but again, it a fantastic value for the price paid. Now "Hotel Style" safe means that you close the door, enter a code and hit the lock button and the bolts close and the door is locked. To open you enter the code and hit the lock button and the door opens. So unlike a more conventional safe with a digital keypad, you have to enter a code each time you lock and unlock the door and it can be a different code every time, just remember youe code, not too difficult and you have the over-ride key if you do forget, which will open it without a code being entered.Good product, glad a bought it. Fairly robust security, good storage space and good price. I had zero problems with mine and it arrived in perfect condition.

Defective Product
I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but the safe we received was completely defective. I don't know if it is the actual safe, or if it was broken during shipping. The master key and the pass code did not work at all. The safe did not open. We followed the instructions as soon as we received the safe, but the first step of the instructions did not work- Step 1- Insert over ride key and turn right. After jiggling it, the key took over an hour to open. It should not take over an hour to get a safe to open with a key. Then we entered the factory preset pass code, and was able to lock and unlock the bolts while the door was open; BUT after one try, the factory preset code did not work, neither would the over ride key. There the safe sat locked, and unable to be opened by either the keypad or the key the within the first few hours of having it.We returned this item immediately.

Keypad doesn't work.
Keypad did not work - right out of the box. Used different batteries in case one was dead - no help. Physical keys work well, just don't misplace them.

I got just what I wanted and expected
They say you get what you pay for. It's what I expected and what I wanted. I basically wanted a secure lock box with lots of room. Didn't need a fire safe so I saved the extra money. Well build for the money and perfect for my needs. It may not keep out a determined thief but it will slow them up and there is not a safe made that can't be broken into. I did have a little problem changing the default pin code to one of my own choosing so I called support and had to leave a message. They returned my call in short order and walked be through the steps. I was happy with the support. I was able to move it myself into place and the pre-drilled holes allowed me to secure it in place.

Defective upon arrival
Great dimensions but the electronic keypad would not accept a code. Tech support said "Oh, it's a bad chip, just send it back", like it happens all the time.

Great hotel room type safe, huge inside, lots of storage, very well built, no issues.
This is a large hotel room safe, which is the best way to describe it. It isn't a fire/waterproof safe by any means, but does afford protection against the common concern of theft. I will tell you that this is very sturdy and the smaller one I purchased, used multiple times a day, day after day, shows no signs of trouble. Uses 4 AA batteries and you put your code in as you close the door to secure it, and you can change it each time if you choose. It comes with a backup key, which is kinda weird because it is so darn long, you have to put it in another safe or something to secure it, you cannot keep it on your keyring. I would highly recommend this very large safe for things that are important, but not stuff that is irreplaceable.
