Detailed 1/700 scale model kit of the HMS Eagle (R05), an aircraft carrier of the British Royal Navy from 1951 to 1972. HMS Eagle was originally laid down as one of four ships of the Audacious-class aircraft carrier in 1942 as part of the British navy buildup during the Second World War. Two of the planned Audacious-class carriers were canceled and the remaining two that were already in construction had constructions suspended at the end of World War II. The HMS Eagle, which was originally designated as HMS Audacious was one of two Audacious-class carriers which have its construction suspended for several years, the other being HMS Ark Royal. A number of upgrades were incorporated into both remaining Audacious-class carriers, and the HMS Eagle was the first to be commissioned (5 October 1951). The Eagle was launched too early to see an angled flight deck installed, but its sister ship the HMS Ark Royal (R09) became the world's first aircraft carrier to be commissioned with an angled flight deck when she was launched on 3 May 1950.
