Counter Culture: Following Christ in an Anti-Christian Age
M**.
A refreshing Christian book that focuses less on self and more on the gospel and how we love others.
A great little book the covers some of the hot topic issues of today. Written from a Southern Baptist pastor and currently president of the International Mission Board, Platt does not mince words. Though essentially a rehash of his first book, Radical, he zones in on specific issues to confront with the gospel. This book is not infallible and conservatives, myself included, will not agree with everything he says. If taken seriously, on the other hand, Counter Culture will cause us to re-examine our attitudes toward sin, the sins of others, political policies, social issues, and so forth. This is a call to take the gospel seriously and use it to influence our culture, shape the way we think about and treat those different from ourselves, and to make our attitudes more Christocentric instead of "conservative" or "Republican." Please read this book if for no other reason than to just read a unique point of view on relevant issues that can be found virtually nowhere in society today.

Highly Recommend, Grounded In the Bible
Incredible book. David Platt is thoroughly gospel-centered and writes with eloquently. He's very to the point and unapologetic about his beliefs, but is also very humble and considerate of the different viewpoints, doubts, and critiques of both Christians and non-Christians. He's also humble, admitting that his experiences with discrimination are very different than minorities in America, for example.I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand what it might look like to take a stance founded on biblical truths on important social issues in the US and across the world. Each chapter is fairly short and provides great discussion for couples or groups, and includes steps for prayer and other action at the end of each one.

This is a good ready for anyone seeking to engage these issues from ...
David Platt offers a well-reasoned defense of conservative biblical positions on the most pressing contemporary moral, social, and ethical issues facing the Church today. This is a good read for anyone seeking to engage these issues from a biblical perspective. Platt uses many personal examples and illustrations which help bring life to the debate. I encountered several sections that felt like a David Platt sermon (which in this case, is a good thing!). One of my favorite aspects to this book is that the author ends each chapter with some suggested action steps to pray and engage on these issues. In this way, this book doesn't simply seek to convert you to agree on an issue-but how you can actively be part of a solution.

Truth in love
If we are honest as American Christians we would admit that in our culture it is becoming increasingly popular to defend only the truths in scripture that our culture defends as a social justice and reject all truths that our culture rejects. Whether it be by television, music, radio, books, etc. masses are being filled with words and information that are shaping the minds and hearts of every class of people into the image of the haughty, rebellious idol of self-satisfaction. A culture entirely centered around being conformed to the world instead of being transformed by the renewal of our minds into the image of Christ. Instead of beholding the glory of Christ with unveiled faces that we would be transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to the next it is becoming a highly popular concept in America for many to claim the name of Christ and all the while reject the truth of Christ. This book is not scripture. It is not infallible. However, David Platt does "destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ" in this book bringing God's word to the forefront of everything said and we can be sure that if we allow for this exhortation to spur us on to love and good deeds, seeking the word of Christ to dwell in is richly, we will find that even in the 21st century "the word of God is still "living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."

Life changing book!
Book was new and great quality. The read was absolutely spectacular! If you are looking for something that will completely rock your world and shift your perception of what it really means to be a Christian than pick this up today! I encourage all Christians to read this and his other two books, "Follow Me" and "Radical". The church as a whole would do better if we listen to his words.

It's a good quick read
It's a good quick read. It doesn't go very deep and I would not recommend to someone who does not have a good grasp of the gospel. The author has a bias, and it is not well hidden.

Every Christian should have this book in their library!
Excellent, easy read. Topical and relevant for today's Christian living in challenging times where holding the line on principles of God's word is not socially popular and often criticized. This is an important primer for every Christian.

Pretty basic
I was looking forward to reading this book but was a little disappointed by the very basic, general dealing with each of the topics. It seemed almost thrown together very quickly. Everything the author said is great and truthful and biblical, but again....very basic. For a newer believer, I think it would be a good book to read on cultural issues, but for a more well read mature believer, it may leave you somewhat disappointed. I still gave it 4 stars because as I said, it would still be a good basic read.
