An asymmetrical tremolo was modelled after a '65 Fender Vibrolux (brown face) to give you the fullest tremolo sound possible. A square wave can be utilized if you're after a harder sound. In the end, Empress won out for the following reasons: 1. The sound was the best of the bunch. Just a really great tremolo that sounds very natural and organic. It sounds beautiful with a clean guitar and very cool with an overdriven sound. 2. The range of effects is great - everything from very subtle tremolo to more modern stuttering sounds 3. It is really easy to configure by turning a few knobs. Some other pedals (e.g. Chase Bliss Gravitas) had way too many options. I just want to find a good sound quickly and focus on my playing. 4. The different tremolo rhythms are cool - the pedal varies the emphasis on the tremolo as you play. 5. The presets work really well. Different colours for up to 8 different sounds. I configured mine to just have 4 presets. 6. It has a very useful expression pedal port that can be used for a range of things including a tap tempo pedal and different types of expression pedal. I added a tap tempo at the front of my pedal board for ease of access. 7. There is a 4 year warranty (if you register with Empress) The only downside is that it is expensive for something that produces a limited amount of effects.
