Garbage product and worthless warranty
Buyer beware big time on this - I bought one of these only about 8 months ago and have had it in use only maybe 4 months. One day the unit started leaking quite a bit, water everywhere, leaking into their poorly placed battery compartment - All I can say is that this company will do nothing but give the run around when your unit starts leaking within the warranty period. They had me take apart the unit with zero direction on how to do so and photograph the leaks before they'ed even talk to me. Then they made up reasons out of thin air (said the warranty was voided because it was installed "permanently" that are not actually written in their warranty to not cover your failed product after not responding for a week. What a joke of a company, product and a lame excuse of a warranty, its basically criminal what they are doing having untrained people take apart their units that are hooked up to gas / electrical and then telling them that something they never set forth in their warranty is the reason they aren't covering it.

NO CUSTOMER SERVICE
I have three of these. Two work fine, and the other one just doesn't, never has, after trying everything. We installed it 3 months after purchase, so Amazon will not allow a return. We have called the Ecotemp phone line many times (no one ever picks up, and never a response to voicemails) and emails with no luck. The company seems to have disappeared?

Was such a joy to get way up there
A piece of junk. First one I bought would not work straight out of the box. Took me a month and multiple tech support calls to get it working at my rural property, which is located (very inconveniently under the circumstances) 100 miles from where I live. Was such a joy to get way up there, turn on the shower, and get ice cold water. Was completely unreliable for awhile, then marginally reliable, , then seemed to finally settle down. Worked with reasonable reliability for about a year. The overall inconvenience of dealing with the thing was unbelievable. It froze, and was destroyed. My fault. I forgot to drain the water as I should have. When it worked, it was ideal for my application. Fired up and produced hot water using only BBQ-size propane bottle. I ordered another, praying the first was just a lemon. It again did not work right out of the box. Have now spent a great deal of time with tech support again. Nothing so far has gotten it to work. Fortunately, I bought it through Amazon, and can return it. The only option I was offered by Eccotemp was for them to send me parts so I could be my own mechanic! Whew! Does anyone know of a similar unit by another manufacturer? One that works would be absolutely perfect for remote locations.

Perfect for my hot water cart!
After a brief try with another brand which rhymes with "beezytankless", which didn't have enough capacity (1.6 GPM) to adequately heat our well water while maintaining a good flow rate, I decided to buy one of these for only $5 more. I'm glad I did.First of all, it came with almost everything I needed to install it, including gas regulator and batteries. It was packaged well and arrived in good shape. The quality of the unit is quite good. As I discovered the hard way with the other unit, there has to be adequate tubing size throughout the unit or you will not get adequate water flow if you are using a garden hose with a spray nozzle to wash dogs and horses. This one has what appears to be about 1/2" ID tubing which provides plenty of flow! It also has enough BTUs to heat our 52° well water to a maximum of 108° (with the heat at max and flow control at minimum). We use it at about 85-90°, which is plenty warm enough to wash animals and allows us to turn up the flow rate enough to do a great job with rinsing. How long a tank of propane will last remains to be seen. There was only a couple of problems. It came with a 2-piece female garden hose adapter fitting for the input which fell apart as soon as it was tightened, but luckily, I had a 1-piece fitting left over that I bought for the last unit that worked great. Annoyingly, it didn't come with a male garden hose adapter for the output. I ended up making one, but I own a machine shop and most people don't, so this will be something you will have to get on your own. Be very careful to hold the input fitting's hex portion with a wrench while tightening the garden hose adapter to it or you will twist the soft copper tubing and ruin it. The output adapter (if you use one) must be the kind that seals with a washer because you can't tighten a female NPT onto the output port since there isn't a hex portion to hold (like the input fitting) to keep the tubing from twisting. I gave a 4-star review for the fitting hassle. This will not be a problem for you if you are just using the unit with a hand-held shower head because this will simply hand-tighten onto the existing output fitting and seals with a washer. They provide the strangest looking pipe sealing tape that I've ever seen so I used my own Teflon tape. I don't trust Chinese batteries, so I used Duracells in the igniter unit. The manual was a nicely-printed paperback book, in a few different languages, including a very well-written English version. There is quite a bit of information in the manual except how to find an adapter fitting for the output port. I read a few reviews that were critical of their technical support, but I was able to call them and ask several questions before I bought it. They seem to be located in the USA although the unit is made in China.I included some pictures of my hot water cart in case this is how you intend to use the unit. It is very important that the unit be drained completely if it will be stored in freezing temperatures or you will ruin the heat-exchanger. I used a Y-valve on the input and output ports so you can just open the valves and drain the unit after using without having to remove the hoses. There is also a small valve on the unit that drains any water trapped inside the unit's pressure valve.

I used to be a huge Ecotemp fan. Not anymore...
This is now the third Ecotemp L10 water heater that I have purchased. Of the first two, one is working great after five years providing hot water to an outdoor sink. The second I had to replace after the water was not getting hot but instead the cover of the heater was getting so hot it would sear your skin off were you to touch it! that heater was more than three years old. So, I ordered a new one in August, 2017. It worked well for a month and just after it could t be returned, the same thing happened to the heater; the water isn't getting heated but the cover of the heater get red hot and is too dangerous to use! I am so disappointed with had been a great product providing outdoor hot showers at an off the grid cabin. After being a huge fan, I've now reached the point that I can no longer recommend this product. My Ecotemp lasted just over a month and was only used twice per weekend. Fewer than 20 showers and it's ready for the dumpster! Maybe Ecotemp will take it back or fix it...

Disappointed. UPDATE - August 2019
Unfortunately, we are still trying to figure out why the drastic difference in water temp. Water is either boiling hot, then turns ice cold. The unit appears to shut off soon after starting. We are 45' from water supply. We turned off water filter, that did not help.We are thinking of purchasing a 2nd supply tank. I was very disappointed. Also, the water fitting supplied broke upon initial installation, we bought another which was more sturdy.Do more research if considering this unit.UPDATED COMMENTSAugust 13, 2019After having this set-up for a few weeks, and some tweaking on our part, in all fairness, I have to add to my previous review. However, don't think you can just hook this up and all will be honky-dory.The coupling supplied is very flimsy; we did have to buy another. This unit was purchased for an off-the-grid cottage, using a 12 volt pump. It took some adjustment between gas setting (we are on propane) and the water flow to find a happy medium. The cut-off could have been caused due to water pressure dropping below minimum requirements of water heater. We can now shower without having water turn scalding hot, and then ice-cold.Overall, I am pleased and will keep the unit.

I am very happy with this unit
I just hooked it up and got it working. The battery compartment seems a little mickey mouse but once i sand papered the ends of the batteries it fired right up. I had to turn it down quite a bit as it got hot fast. I am very happy with this unit. If you are just using a hose to hook on to it they give you the adapters. Very easy to hook up. Make sure you keep a fresh set of D cell batteries around. It sounds like it is igniting as you can hear the spark but it seems that it will not light it. Once you install a new set of batteries you will see the difference in the spark. I was fooled by this once but I now keep a set of spare batteries on hand.It has been a couple of months since we have had it. This little unit is unbelievable. Our older Bosch crapped out and they wanted $600 for parts. Big rip off. This unit is more than looking after our needs at the cabin. I just purchased another Ecco Temp for inside use. Anxious to see how it works. No more Bosch for me.

Excellent. Love it!
Loving it so far. Heats the water up very very quickly, well made, super fast to hook up, even with high water pressure it heated the water to as hot as you want it very fast. Great product. Highly recommend and has a drain screw for draining remaining water in the unit if freezing weather outside. A lot of the other competitor companies don't have a drain screw on them so the water can freeze in the heater coils and wreck them. This one is perfect.

Great unit, heats ice cold lake water for a nice hot shower.
Consider this a very long term review. I purchased this unit in March of 2016 and it has been in use May to October for the past 3 summers at my camp in Northern Ontario. The unit is very easy to install and operate, I have it setup in the change room of my sauna plumbed into a shower head inside the sauna itself. The unit has no problem heating up 40 deg f water to a nice hot shower, only slight issue is the small change in water pressure as the pump cycles and pressure changes, very minor.I drain the the unit every fall but somehow water got trapped and burst one of the heat exchange tubes, I managed to solder it closed and the unit is still going strong!Highly recommend, just be sure to maintain properly. I have a waterfresh water filter and 30 micron coarse filter installed for this unit to keep debris out.

Great Product
Excellent product...works perfectly. This is a replacement for another L 10 that I had purchased two years ago. That one worked perfectly as well, but I thought that I had drained the unit completely in preparation for our cold winter temperatures at the cabin where I had installed it. Apparently, it had not drained completely even though I opened all the lines to empty them and removed the drain screw at the bottom of the unit. Obviously, some water was retained in the heater with the resulting splits in the tubes within the unit. Perhaps the unit was not perfectly plumb on the wall and some water did not escape prior to our cold winter temperatures. Previously, I had pumped plumber's antifreeze through both the water pipes and the Eccotemp with no damage occurring through the winter. I made the mistake of not following suit the subsequent fall.In any event, this is a quality, dependable unit that should serve you well.
