One item was placed downstairs and the other upstairs in the bedroom. The upstairs one was positioned to the side of the television it was going to control and plugged into the mains, downstairs the other one was placed on the floor in front of the SKY+HD box with the unit facing the sensor at the centre of the box. When operating the remote upstairs the channels on the SKY box everything worked as expected. When I came downstairs and used the remote to operate the SKY box it would not work until I had moved the Marmitek unit away from the line of sight with the sensor on the SKY box. This was a nuisance, so I decided to order the extender cable that plugs into the back of the main unit downstairs. When this arrived the unit was put out of sight, the extender cable plugged in, and one of the 'eyes' positioned below the SKY sensor. To test everything was working I went upstairs and operated the remote as normal and everything worked perfectly, then came downstairs and tried the remote directly on the SKY box and this also worked perfectly. In other words if you want to use the remote without moving the downstairs unit and not switching it off I would recommend getting the extender cable. It is always probable to forget to switch the downstairs unit on before going to bed, and then have to come down to switch it on, which (to me) defeats the object. As a result I can thoroughly recommend this unit and especially with the extender cable which comes with two magic eyes so that it can be used with another remotely controlled item. At the end of the day this is a very versatile unit that does exactly what it says, and without any major problems.
