As long as your router can hold dovetail bit, and most of them can. **Q: which kind of router do I need? thanks!** A: I found out the hard way that you need a router with half inch collet and one that has or will take a baseplate that can accommodate the guide bushing(s). I couldn't find anything that would work with a 1/4 inch collet nor any bits that would work. I bought a Portor Cable that has worked out well. BTW it's not an out of the box instant usage. The setup is a bit complicated and be prepared for a learning curve (practice) you will need to go through if you have never used one. It's still worth it you have the time. **Q: how wide a board will this do?** A: 10 inches is about the limit of the jig **Q: Been watching instruction dvd for about three years now and not a bit closer to using my $500 equipment than before I purchased it. It works well. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Review *by J***R on 29 June 2015* best tool ever ### ⭐⭐⭐ Review *by E***R on 12 October 2022* I got this since I needed to make about 20 identical drawers with half-blind DT's and doing it by hand would have been pretty tedious. I generally don't use power tools---I thought I'd give it try. In the end, I could crank out the drawers, but it was frustrating at best and not nearly as satisfying. Here's the problem: unless you're 100% spot on with the side-to-side fence and the pins are perfectly centered, even a fraction of an mm off is not good...you wind up with a offset as you go around the drawer. By hand, I space out the DTs so I'm 100% sure that they're centered. Using the template, you're forced to a specific spacing. Also, the depth gauge is more or less worthless and recommended settings are not for my 6" router. Rather than trusting their scale, I pulled out a marking gauge and carefully adjusted the depth, and stop bar until I cut correctly. The side-to-side was more problematic. There may be a better way, but I placed a mark at the center of the pin-board, and carefully tried to center that in the middle of one of the template slots...it might be good to back and make a mark into the template. So, after about 2 hours of fiddling and making a half dozen failures, I got it dialed. Perhaps, someone has a better way of doing this...the instructions and videos are a bit too idealized.
