Review Courtesy All Things Urban FantasyI remember when I first read FRACTURE, and I remember loving it. I recommended it everywhere I could. I was elated at finding out that there was a second in the series.VENGEANCE takes us back to Falcon Lake, back to Delaney and Decker and their group of friends that seriously should have seen a whole team of grief counselors a long time ago. Especially Decker, especially in this book. I get the stages of grief and to the author’s credit, she portrayed Decker true to his character in FRACTURE, as he struggles with his sudden loss. Unfortunately, Decker wasn’t the most likeable character even in the first book and he did very little to redeem that in VENGEANCE.Since the book was from Decker’s point of view this time, and not Delaney’s, the first two-thirds of the book is a running commentary on dealing with grief the wrong way. As the mother of a 17 year old boy, I spent more time wondering when his mother was going to wake up to her son’s behavior and strongly suggest he talk to someone because he was throwing red flags right and left. She didn’t and as much as I know it was a storyline choice – hard to keep him screwing up and making things worse if he gets a handle on his grief.I’ve seen a comparison made of FRACTURE to Stephen King’s DEAD ZONE, and that only solidified more with Decker’s constant lapse into italics, and memories of an early scene with a dying woman. Whatever symbolism that was supposed to have to the story itself, other than to make Decker stop being an idiot and focus, was lost on me.The last third of VENGEANCE redeems the mired-in-grief-induced-anger, though, when the plot ramps up and the mysteries surrounding the lake, and these traumatized kids. I had the plot figured out well beforehand, on both counts, but it made it no less interesting to watch as Decker and Delaney put the pieces together.I’m glad the series has a bookend with VENGEANCE because I remember wanting more from Decker and Delaney when FRACTURE finished, and I was very glad to see them find their way through the darkness that took them when Delaney fell through the ice and find light on the other side. For that, I’m content.

Vengeance by Megan Miranda is the sequel to Fracture, and this time the book is in Decker’s point of view. After the events from the last book everyone thinks Falcon Lake is haunted and is waiting to get its revenge. Decker loses someone close to him and Delaney knew it would happen, so Decker takes his anger out on Delaney, until mysterious things start to happen to them and their friends. Of course after these things start to happen everyone thinks the curse of Falcon Lake is coming to get them, and it’s especially trying to get Delaney.In this book Decker has a lot of anger towards Delaney for keeping a secret from him. He acts harshly towards her, but you can tell deep down he really cares about her. The rest of the characters in the book set the tone of the book because they honestly feel like the curse is coming for them and now they have this fear towards Falcon Lake. Vengeance for me was a page turner because I couldn’t wait to read what was going to happen next. Vengeance had an unexpected but great ending. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes paranormal, thrillers, and mysteries. If Megan Miranda wrote another book I would buy it. (;
