They had great traction in a rocky stream and were waterproof after stepping in the stream a few times. I got wide and they were good for my wide forefoot. They are kind of stiff as hiking boots often are but I've only had them for a week. I took them on a 4 hour hike in Turkey Run state park with a lot of terrain and they stayed comfortable and held up well. I removed the insole and put in my orthotics.
