Review: Just Go For It- Wont be disappointed! Its AS5 - Arctic Silver- Age old name & professionals choice for any high end machine. Had its name in mind since years. So when the need came ordered one. Product comes in open poly packaging. There is neither any blister pack nor any seal. Appears like product is imported in bulk & then sold in loose packaging. Only a Zip lock poly bag with a syringe containing 3.5 AS5 compund. But it appears genuine & performs well. ******* PROS ******* 1. Its old & trusted name in thermal paste world 2. Will bring down temperatures by 10-20 degrees. More important is system will be stable under load & run for longer durations at higher frequencies. 3. Qty is also good. If applied in right qty without wastage, it may last for approx 4-5 repaste jobs, on cpu & gpu. ******* CONS ******* Only con being, though not electrically conductive its slightly capacitive, and if not applied carefully, will spread outside to small components on die & create trouble. ********************** USAGE SCENARIO ********************** I used it in my old Dell XPS L502x & Inspiron 15R (all stats are wrt xps one), to replace stock thermal paste on CPU & GPU. CPU throttling due to excess core temperatures 95 Deg + on load. On even small load, it shooted up to 100 & then throttling will occur. High temp were due to dust accumulation on vents, fin & old expired thermal paste. *********** HOW TO *********** 1. Using cleaning solution (eg isopropyl alcohol available at chemist shop) & swab, clean out old paste. Be careful. Clean dies to mirror finish. 2. On square die, apply a drop. Neither too big, nor too small. Will depend on die size & your guess. On rectangular die, apply a line. When heatsink is pressed on to die, due to pressure it auto spreads consistently. Its preferred method, i did not go for spread method as it may sometimes leave air bubbles which is a no go. *pic attached with illustration on square/rectangular die & real application on rectangular die ************************** BEFORE APPLICATION ************************** Cold boot, no apps running, core temp was 63 Deg, CPU at 800mhz On full load via prime 95 After 2 min 95 deg & cpu at 1700mhz After 5 mins 95 deg & cpu at 1500mhz After 15 mins 95 deg & cpu at 1100mhz Fan: at full rpm, continuously whirring. ************************ AFTER APPLICATION ************************ Cold boot, no apps running, after 15 mins core temp was 50 Deg, CPU at 2400mhz On full load via prime 95 After 2 min 79 deg & cpu at 2900mhz After 5 mins 82 deg & cpu at 2700mhz After 15 mins 82 deg & cpu at 2600mhz Fan: less noise and triggers less. Very lesso n high rpm So it appears like, huge difference in performance & power saving!! Its been a few days after application, n laptop seems to run cool & there is visible boost in performace on load. ****************** FINAL VERDICT ****************** So getting AS5 was not a bad investment! You can surely go for it. Just be careful in its application as though not electrically conductive, its capacitive & if not used in desired qty may spread out to small components on die & create trouble. Also be patient after application as it takes around 200 hours to cure or to reach its full capacity. Thats burn in time for AS5.
Review: My money was well spent, I guess :-) - I'm an avid computer gamer and a proud owner of Alienware M14x R2 gaming laptop :-) For last couple of months I was experiencing unbelievably low fps in games like Counter Strike and World of Tanks while playing on this beast. After some research online I realized the problem to be my old thermal grease, which no longer remained efficient, and causing thermal throttling frequently. HWMonitor showed the CPU temp jumping up and down between 91 degree and 75 degree. While, GPU is constantly over 70 degree. Initially, I thought of buying 'Arctic Silver Ceramique 2' as it doesn't show any capacitive effect like Arctic Silver 5, but finally zeroed in on this product for being superior thermal grease, as many other claimed here in desertcart and elsewhere on the Internet. I also purchased 'Amzer 97265 Alcohol Prep Pad' to rub off the older grease from CPU and GPU heads. But, that turned out to be a wrong choice as it took much effort to do the cleaning with those prep pad as they were not wet enough. Applying on GPU was easy as its top surface is in a shape of square; so applying a pea size of grease worked fine. Apply on CPU (i7, 3rd gen) was rather tricky for its size of upper surface. If you're also planning to do it by yourself, go to the Artic silver home page, and check the instructions on how to apply this grease on different CPU models. Improvements I noticed so far (after almost a month went since I applied it): 1. Temp of GPU (NVidia Gforce GT 650M) is now really well balanced. After playing for couple of hours, max temp reaches around 72, and on average it stays around 60. 2. Temp of CPU is not so well balanced, and most likely that is because I failed to applied it properly. Though, the max temp never goes beyond 75, but it on average remains at 66/67 while playing (I expected it to be around 60, on average). Moreover, HWMonitor reports that core 7 and 8 remains nearly 5/6 degree higher than other cores, which make me suspect the thermal grease was not applied properly over the complete surface of CPU when I assembled my laptop. But, right now I'm not going to correct that as it is not causing not much trouble for me; may be I'll give it a shot after a year or two. BTW, since I applied this thermal grease on both CPU and GPU, the overall temp still shoots up high while playing for couple of hours straight, but it doesn't go up unbounded like before and I have NOT experienced any thermal throttle since then. My money was well spent, I guess :-)

## Questions & Answers

**Q: The website says I should apply it in a veritcal line. Is it true?**
A: DROP/PEASIZE METHOD IS BETTER.

Try a small drop of paste on a clean-dried sheet of glass. then place another glass sheet onto the thermal paste . gently if possible.
NOW U CAN SEE YOURSELF, THER ARE NO AIR BUBBLES IN THE LAYER OF PASTE BETWEEN GLASS LAYERS.

but now if you try to spread the paste first and then put glass sheet on,, you will see some air microbubbles are trapped (not good).

SO PEA OR LINE METHOD ARE TILL DATE THE BEST AND EASIEST.

**Q: Can someone suggest me why is this used for? i am getting my ps3 repaired at a local shop and he mentioned this name saying it costs around 1400 inr.**
A: It is used as heat transferring substance between a processor and a heatsink. Heat generated by proceaaor needs to be transmitted to heatsink for an efficient heat dissipation. Air between the processor and heatsink cannot transfer the heat efficiently. So there should be a good heat conducting substance between them which transfers the heat and thermal paste serves this purpose.

**Q: How much is the conductivity of the compound?**
A: It's thermally conductive enough to keep the temperature cool. Mine is always below 55 degree Celsius even after using 10 hours straight .

**Q: Can I use it for intel 4690k processor ? I have cooler master hyper 103 cpu cooler**
A: Maybe you should not use it in laptop since it is a bit capacitive as most of tech people say.
LAPTOPS HAVE DE-LIDED PROCESSORS that means their top metal cap is absent as what you might see in desktop processors(metal ka dhakkan nahi hota!) 🤔

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent and Magical - It's the silver in it that does the magic.
*by D***L on 19 May 2018*

I heard about this product from a youtuber Dave Lee. In 2014, my laptop went dead and I sent it to a Samsung authorised service centre. They told me they will need to replace the MoBo for a total of Rs 6k. After the replacement, Samsung guys broke my laptop web cam and the laptop used to heat up and shutdown to protect cpu from melting. I searched on the internet and found that a thermal paste is needed to transfer heat efficiently from the CPU to the heat pipes. So I ordered a cheap thermal paste for Rs 150 from a local shop. I applied the paste but to no avail. The laptop still heated up and would shutdown. So I did a temporary os hack and reduced the max CPU power consumption from power options to 80%, both on battery and charger. I stopped playing games as my cpu could not perform well. Then I heard about this product and ordered it. I quickly opened up my laptop, removed the heat pipes cleaned them as well as the cpu and applied this thermal paste. I can now use the cpu 100%. The laptop still heats up but it doesn't shutdown due to heat up. I think I need to replace the fan as well as I once dropped some milk on laptop and it has seeped through and clogged the heat vents and slowed down the fan. Tldr; this is an excellent thermal paste. I recommend it without doubting it's abilities.
