## Description

A Tarot Experience of Curious Delights Welcome to Wonderland, where the air sparkles with revelation and wisdom is carried on the breeze. Tarot in Wonderland is a deck where tarot and the characters from Alice's adventures meet. True to the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith cards and based on Lewis Carroll's imaginative creations, this deck invites you into a beautiful mirror world that awakens intuition and enlivens the mind and spirit. Includes a 78-card deck and a full-color guidebook Praise: " Tarot in Wonderland by Barbara Moore and Eugene Smith is a delightful deck that celebrates your curiosity. The wisdom and the magic brought together by Lewis Carroll's beloved story, the luminosity of Barbara Moore, and Eugene Smith's artistic finesse have conjured a treasure set that every tarot reader, from novice to master, prepubescent to senior, is going to cherish."―Benebell Wen "I'm always in for a good, bookish tarot deck, and it turns out Alice in Wonderland and tarot make a great combo. To get to know the new Tarot in Wonderland deck, I'm reading this gorgeous, full color companion guidebook, complete with unique spreads based on Alice's adventures."― Book Riot

Review: The Best Alice Deck Yet - I was expecting big things from this deck, being both another take on Wonderland, and a Barbara Moore offering, and I'm really pleased that it's delivered on all fronts, and is actually my favourite Alice deck yet. The deck comes in the magnetic closure box that the deck and book kits from Llewellyn have been coming in recently. I love these things -- they're quite sturdy! The only complaint I have about it is that once unwrapped, the cards don't actually fit very snugly into the inset for them. They pop out quite a bit over the top to where the cover doesn't even close very well, even with the book on top of the cards. It's not enough of an issue for me to lower my rating of the deck -- tarot boxes have long been a disappointment and I plan on putting this deck in a bag as soon as I find a good one anyway! But it's an issue worth noting. The art is beautiful, and filled with a lot of great references to the world of Alice. My pictures definitely don't do the deck justice! The cardstock is slightly thicker than some of the recent Llewellyn offerings such as the Everyday Witch Tarot. (Which may be why the cards don't fit so well in the box.) It's still very flexible however, so if you're a riffle shuffler like me, you'll probably love it. The backs are nonreversible, which isn't an issue for me, as I don't read with reversals, and the companion book does not provide reversed meanings. There's probably enough reversed in Wonderland already! The companion book is stunning, both in appearance and content. It's full colour, with full page images of every card, and comes in at over 300 pages. Every card gets three sections in the book: Through the Looking-Glass, which describes the card's imagery and its relationship to the world of Wonderland, Down the Rabbit Hole, which goes more into the meaning of the card, followed by the Keywords section. If you're not deeply familiar with the symbolism of Alice and Wonderland, this companion book will be very helpful when a reference is lost on you! The book is thorough enough that you don't have to already be a resident of Wonderland to grasp the deck -- and the art is mostly straightforward enough that you could make it without the book if you had to, but I wouldn't recommend it if you want to embrace the full nuance of the cards. However, the book isn't just filled with card keywords and descriptions. It opens with great insight to the deck's themes and background, and then goes into a section on how to read cards which is a wonderful overview for the beginner. It also includes a section on spreads, which is probably the highlight of the book. Which is to be expected, if you're familiar with Barbara Moore's spreads -- she's one of the greatest spreadcrafters of our time. I am proclaiming this my favourite Alice deck so far, and pretty high up on the general tarot list as well, for that matter. I'd recommend this to any Alice fan and any tarot fan and especially anyone who sits at the crossroads of both.
Review: A Must-Have Deck! - I absolutely LOVE this deck. I’m actually buying a 2nd one because when I let my daughter “sample” several of my tarot decks, trying to find a deck she might want for her birthday, she said the cards were easy and satisfying to shuffle (I agree!), the deck was talkative, & it always gave her spot-on cards for any question she asked. I said “It sounds like the deck really likes you & it sounds like y’all have bonded, so you keep it, I can always buy another one.” I got my first deck 2-3 weeks ago, & I love it, so I definitely wanted to buy myself one after gifting the original to her. She’s THRILLED! On a personal level, I’ve really enjoyed the deck (hence, why I’m buying another one). The artwork is beautiful, the symbolism is there and in keeping with RWS symbolism, so if you know the RWS system, you can easily translate that knowledge to this deck. I’m actually not terribly familiar with Alice in Wonderland since I haven’t seen it probably since I was young, so a lot has been forgotten. The guidebook fills in the storyline gaps I have, and by reading those, I can tell that the artistic choices make a lot of sense. The “Through the Looking Glass” portion is great and helpful. The guidebook, as a whole, is thorough and beautifully done. The cards also show direction and motion particularly well, which leads to deeper intuitive hits on the cards. I know some people don’t love the card stock, but I love it. My daughter has smaller hands, so it’s perfect for her; and as I get older, my hands have become weaker, so the cardstock is in that sweet spot: easy to shuffle, but they’re not flimsy. I don’t worry about wearing out the cards at all. I would recommend this deck to people at any point in their tarot journey. This is the only deck I’ve ever repurchased. I’ve given my daughter decks before and never felt like I wanted or needed to replace it. But I gave my daughter the deck yesterday afternoon and repurchased it about 5 minutes after I gave it to her. That’s how much I want to keep this deck in my collection!
