Samba Esquema Novo by Jorge Ben Jor

Jorge Ben is one of the originators of what we all know now as bossa nova. Samba Esquema Novo is his first album, from 1964, and contains among other delights the original version of Mas Que Nada, which he wrote. The whole album is full of great tunes, delivered by Jorge against light jazz arrangements. Recommended to lovers of Brazilian music who might have overlooked Jorge Ben.

Classic album from the master a must for lovers of brasilian music

Ist glaube das ist das Debütalbum vom guten Jorge Ben und zugleich eines seiner besten. Wirklich jeder Track geht sofort ins Ohr und hellt die Stimmung auf, auch wenn man kein Portugiesisch versteht. Die Remastered-Pressung hat einen guten Klang und geht für das Geld (unter 20 €) absolut in Ordnung. Würde mir mehr neu nachgelegte Musik aus Brasilien wünschen, vor allem aus den 60ern und 70ern, weil die Originale zu gepfefferten Preisen gehandelt werden und meist teuer importiert werden müssen.

Sencillez, inocencia, sensualidad, jovialidad, juego, magia. En su día, recibió palos a destajo por parte de la crítica patria, que consideraba a Ben un artista "pueril"; años después este disco es considerado una piedra de toque de la MPB y su autor un renovador, incluso un revolucionario. Pero él compuso y cantó estas canciones con el corazón y con la epidermis, es difícil encontrar en toda la música brasileña un artista menos cerebral y calculador. Entre Sam Cooke y Joao Gilberto, a mí a quien me recuerda, sobre todo en este primer disco, es a Jonathan Richman. Los dos fueron y son un desafío viviente a la solemnidad y a la tontería de la crítica de siempre; para los demás, son un milagro.

Cásico de bossa-nova de los años 60. Una delicia, incluye numerosos temas que forman parte de la memoria musical de una época. Inmortales melodías en un disco delicioso.

Track list is perfect. Great quality. This is one of my favorite records. But the cover is NOT as advertised. This is apparently a reissue of Samba Esquema Novo entitled Big Ben (the name of Jorge Bem's fourth album). This was not made clear in the listing. UPS also took 5 days with a "Two Day" delivery, although Amazon took care or me on that. I'm still satisfied with the purchase, but the artwork in the listing does not reflect product sent.

No need to mention what a masterpiece this album is. You have to have this in your collection, no matter how much you love samba, it is so pure and elegant, sophisticated in its simplicity. Regarding the Vinyl pressing by DOXY, it is simply spotless. Excellent quality, noise and scratch free and of very high quality. I've been waiting for a new pressing of this album for a long time and this is absolutely stunning. Get it while it's available.

great album

A very good album - fun, catchy, relaxing and energetic.

What was delivered is not what is depicted here. I received and album called "Big Ben" from Dol records, which was probably copied from a cd or mp3. The sound quality is poor. The cover is not the same, either. I had to return it.

This cd was made in the early sixties and shows the samba and its' adaption of jazz style arrangements.It is a great glimpse into music history in its' original format.

The artwork of the vinyl that I bought through Amazon is not the one in the picture.
