Review: 5 Star product but here's the caveat... - TL;DR At the bottom I thought this monitor was broken when I first got it. The colors were washed out. Then I updated the color profile and it looked better. Okay, monitor looks nice but nothing special I thought. Then I tried running HDR just because I was curious what it looked like. THEN monitor kept going black screen... I could barely get it working again. I thought FOR SURE the monitor was broken and already started the return. After troubleshooting the monitor I got it working again but HDR would cause the issue again, I thought what ever. Maybe I'll just keep it, I don't really care about HDR anyway. That's when I found some piece of information mentioning bandwidth and Fiber Optics that made me order a new HDMI cable... I already tried two different cables but I thought, let me just try ordering a new cable that for sure supports HDMI 2.1. Sure enough... The new cable solved all my problems. Because this new cable had so much bandwidth I was not only able to now run HDR but I also updated the color depth to 10-Bit and it's running flawlessly and looks so much better. Turns out the cable MSI provides with the monitor is not a quality cable and they might as well not even put one in the box, it's just a waste of time and probably causing a lot of unnecessary returns. TL;DR: The cable MSI provides with the monitor is bad quality. This MSI monitor is bright, vibrant, and has fantastic contrast. The glossy coating helps make images pop, unlike other OLED monitors I saw from Samsung and LG. I was worried I would miss the 4k resolution of my old IPS monitor, but I didn’t. The MAG 271QPX E2 blows my old IPS monitor out of the water, and it’s not even close. Response times are instant, and I immediately noticed that going from 60hz to 240hz was a massive leap in smoothness. Navigation through the menu was simple, and settings were easy to configure. This MSI monitor's ergonomics, design, and build quality are top-notch. Many people complained about text fringing, and while it exists, it is not as big of a deal as many people make it out to be; it’s still very sharp with its 1440p resolution. Another overblown complaint is the purple hue of QD-OLED, and unless you have very, VERY harsh lighting in your room, it’s essentially a non-issue when the monitor is on. In addition, I use this monitor with my Nintendo Switch, which makes playing games brand new again with this QD-OLED Panel.
