One broke on me already and had to buy some better quality strings. **Q: Are they waterproof** A: I'd recommend Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP Leather Conditioner. 6,500 reviews, 4.8 rating overall. Will protect and waterproof the leather, but of course it doesn't completely seal all seams. Obenauf's has no petroleum-based ingredients. I used Sno-Seal for years on my old winter snow boots. When soles starting peeling off, shoemaker tried regluing them but said the Sno-Seal petroleum component helped cause the peeling and prevented regluing the soles. He recommended Obenauf's products. I work in an auto shop and I'm on my feet for 10-12 hours a day and out of the box these are not that comfortable. However with a gel insole in they're a lot better. I've worn them in some pretty deep snow and they did a pretty good job actually, and I never really lost traction on a wet or oily surface. They lasted awhile and until recently a lot of damage it took was mostly cosmetic that didn't effect how they felt. What did them in was the rubber tread on the bottom getting slits in them that would let rocks get stuck beneath the tread and sole of the shoe. Also the layer of the sole under the insole wore down to the point that the metal puncture proof layer was exposed causing the boots to be pretty uncomfortable.
