For those that don't know what that means, with a belt system, the slower you make the drill go, the higher the torque. This is best because hard materials like metal require a slower speed and higher torque. A voltage based RPM drill reduces speed while also reducing torque. This seriously reduces the depth one can drill into hard materials. This can be compensated to an extent by small bites and clearing the hole repeatedly but do no expect this drill to do any hard work. That said I am happy with it for what it was meant to do. Not crazy about the speed control being on the AC adapter. I also don't care for the fact that half the motor housing is kinda thin plastic. I have a quality, vintage jewelers/watchmakers mini drill press that is about twice as tall with a motor 2-3 times more powerful, but table rises up to the drill instead of the drill lowering to the table. This one is easier to use and good enough for most things I need to use a small drill press. I don't care for the drill press vice included. Cheaply made and a bit large for this press.
