The lamp is a good size, the height is just right. Plugged right in to a USB and it works fine.It is very bright. It's almost too bright, no way to dim it. I knew it wasn't dimmable, but I didn't expect it to be so bright. It does fold up neatly and the double joint arm is very flexible for positioning the lamp to just the right angle, and you can fold up the lamp in ways so as to diffuse the light. Collapsing it down completely, it even makes a decent night light.And it's a white light instead of a yellow light like what I'm used to. It seems a little harsh.With batteries, it makes a good travel lamp or as a flashlight / torch, esp under the car hood, searching for a lost item, etc. due to its portability. The base is not very heavy, so if you over extend it without batteries in the base, it will tip.
