This is very easy to use and it is not messy to apply. If you are unsure, it is basically like a soft crayon or artist's soft pastels for your hair. I use it at my temples so I pull the hair away from my scalp and rub this on then use the blender to kind of push it around a bit and even it out. It is only a temporary color and does wash out. I am not sure how water-resistant it is for activities like swimming or when sweating but it stays on very well during my regular day.
