The box was literally falling apart due to the weight of the contents. This is in spite of the fact that they put a lot of heavy tape around the outside of the box to try to stop it from falling apart. I would suggest that they bag these things in heavy plastic before they put them in the box. Also, they send plenty of the little caps to drive them into the ground, but I found a much better way to do it. You can find a video that I made on YouTube. It makes it much easier to drive these into the ground through a PVC tube with a piece of oak to drive them in. Just drop the spike into the PVC and use the oak dowel to drive them in. The PVC should be about 3 feet long in the Oak dowel about 4 feet long. I do know that they grow my many trees fast and healthy. I am about to put them down now for this year. I trust these tree spikes to grow my trees fast and sturdy. **Q: Can i use it for fruit tree?** A: The Jobe's 1611 Evergreen out door spikes are just used for evergreen's in the fall. There is a Jobe's fertilizer spike just for fruit or regular trees. **Q: I have trees 1-2 inch trunck diameter. I did not see 30' requirement. I placed 2 spikes for each tree , 6 inch from trunck. Will this burn my trees** A: Well first off it's 30" not 30', but it may very well burn them putting them that close. If you just did this I would dig out the spikes and either place new ones at 30" or try to reuse the old ones. These are a great product and I have used them for many years. Some tricks on using. *by H***R on March 6, 2024* These are a great way to give a slow release fertilizer to trees and shrubs. The box of 160 saves lots of money if you use that many spikes. The box comes with the spikes loosely packed. There are no individual boxes. The spikes do hit each other in transit and some fragmentation does occur. When opening the box, all of the spikes are intact but there is some powder on the bottom. They come with multiple caps for insertion. However, after looking at a you tube video, I strongly suggest trying this technique. Get a 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe, easily available at almost all hardware stores, and cut it to about 4 feet. They come in very long lengths, but many stores have shorter remnants. Then get a 1 1/2 inch wooden dowel, available from the same store, and cut it to about 5 feet. The standard dowel is about six feet. You can use the full length is needed. It will fit in the 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe. Then, when the ground is still soft, simply drop the Jobe's spike into the pipe, insert the dowel, and use a hammer to hit the wooden dowel to impact it into the ground. I marked the dowel so I would know when the spike was about 4 inches below the ground surface. This way you can insert 160 spikes without every bending over.
