Not the most sweet but also not the most unsweet. I'd say it's in the "sweet spot" (lol dad joke)

Q: Is this better as a pre or post work out?

I like it better as a post workout, but that’s just my personal opinion. I use the RSP Amino Lean energy formula for my pre-workout.

Q: Is rival way gluten free?

It does not specifically state that it is GF, but there are no gluten containing ingredients. Also, the allergen information only calls out milk and soy. Take that information and do what you will.
