An informative mushroom identification source
Thoroughly informative book with accompanying photographs to aid identification of mushrooms throughout the world. An interesting read for anyone interested in mycology and the psychedelic genus of mushrooms.

Good Book, but not what I was expecting
I saw Paul Stamets 'Fantastic Fungi' documentary on Netflix and was fascinated, so I bought this book to learn more about his work. If I'd done a bit more research I would have realised that this is essentially a book about identification... I guess there was a clue on the cover that says quite clearly 'An Identification Guide' (Hahaha)It's not what I wanted, but I'll keep it because I think Stamets deserves the royalties and It's also got a very good 'Recommended Reading and Resources' guide at the back that contains a lot of things that I do want...

Good but not amazing
great book but still not quite the great identifier i was looking for. we need a book with plenty/multiple photos of each mushroom that grows in Britain and Northern Europe. Someday someone will put one of these together because the psilocybin mushrooms of the british isles old book is useless unless you want to identify P Semincealata, which, come on, most people who would be interested in such a book, already know how to identify. i don't think Stamets book is even good enough to safely identify wavy caps (and there are a few more types that grow in Britain. they are a little rarer, contain a bit less active alkaloids but they're there for utilisation).

The best book on magic mushrooms I have ever seen.
This book should be the prize possesion of anybody interested in shrooms. It is well written, has lots of pictures, and the quality and layout of the book are very high. This book lists, describes and pictures pretty much every psilocybin mushroom currently know to man, and is an invaluble reference guide. As somebody has already mentioned, the only slight down fall of the book is that some of the photographs are a little small, but considering the sheer number of photographs in the book, maybe they have to be small to fit them all in.The book also contains tips on taking mushrooms, and information on the levels of psychoactive compounds contained within the various species.I was amazed at the number of speices of psilocybin mushrooms that can be found in the UK, as very few "normal" mushroom field guides ever mention them.I highly recomend this publication to anybody with an interest in magic mushrooms.

AN EXCELLENT FIELD GUIDE TO IDENTIFICATION - LOTS OF PICTURES AND PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE FROM THE AUTHOR
The best field guide i have seen so far on the topic ; a great educational aid with lots of dos and don't that makes it a great field guide for those actively seeking mushrooms in the environment ' Lots of pictures, colour plates and information to help you safely identify species , clearly has the lead on the topic as Paul Stamets is a leading authority on the topic ; see his interview on the Jo Rogan exp'.

A very good guide
I would have liked a global location or country reference for each variety.
