In the past, I have bought more expensive knives that needed sharpening before the first use. So, I was surprised how sharp this knife is "out-of-the-box". As mentioned previously, it may not stay sharp for long, but I will either sharpen it, or, considering the price, just replace it. At this point, I would recommend this knife.
