Nice and smooth. We originally bought it to help our elderly family member push her rolling walker over the threashold, and for that purpose, again, worked great and I highly recommend it for anyone with an elderly or challenged person in the home. Very helpful. After the fact though, we kept it in place because it's more comfortable! This threshold is perfect for my needs, and I agree that it comes out of the box, ready to install, and has no discernable odor. The quality is excellent and the solid rubber construction makes it able to handle heavier weights. The doorway I needed to bridge is a narrow (28") pocket door into the kitchen. Using just a sharp kitchen knife, I was able to easily cut through the threshold to make it fit the doorway. I also appreciate that It doesn't need to be fastened to the floor to be effective for usage of utility cart, a rollator walker or a knee scooter. I am renting the house, and did not want to install a product that might damage the flooring. I highly recommend this product.
