My joists are 22 inches apart and it fits nicely with room to spare. Take care when removing packaging, the instructions are on the rear of the sheet that are taped to the ladder. Reviewers have criticised the instructions as not being that good. At first glance they do look busy, however, lay everything out, look at the area your working in and just take it a step at a time. The biggest thing to take into account is the space you will need above and behind for storage , i would reckon at least 3-4 feet above and 4-5 feet behind to be really on the safe side. A couple of reviewers have received a damaged item, my ladder was slightly damaged, there was a dent in one of the runners, something heavy must have been put on it in transit, however its only aluminium so I was able to bend it back out with a large flat bladed screwdriver. Build quality is probably about right for what you pay for, im quite a chunky fella and the ladder creaks a bit when im on it but at no point do i feel its at all dodgy. All in all, for the price you cant go wrong.
