The box of 48 is also not in a tin but a cardboard box. Faber Castell Pitt pastel pencils do not have a warning. But the pastel of the pencil is harder and comes in up to 60 Pencils per "tin" **Q: How do I sharpen these?** A: You can use pastel sharpeners Eg. Derwent pastel sharpeners **Q: How would you compare these to Kohi Noor Gioconda pastel pencils?** A: Well, I have not tried the Kohi Noor Gioconda ones but I have used the Faber-Castell 60 count. I do prefer the Faber-Castell ones over these though. These one are very thick pastel and wood so it makes it a little awkward the work with. They are more for big areas of color or shading while other sets can be sharpened to a point and used more precisely. Also it is impossible to sharpen them with a regular sharpener because they are so thick. So if you do get them, look into buying whatever sharpener they recommend or I guess you could just use a knife. Overall, they are great for blending/shading but they do not include too many colors so keep that in mind. I do like them for their purpose so I would get these along with the thinner pastels like the Kohi Noor Gioconda of the Faber-Castell 60 count. Hope this helps! :) ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good colours in this set *by G***D on 12 July 2021* Very good pastel pencils, just right for a beginner. They mix well and are very positive. The colours alsolayer well too although care must be taken as the actual colour is very soft and can break easily. Theseare the best pastel pencils I have used so far and am thinking of buying another identical set. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Gorgeous colours & effects *by M***T on 12 August 2019* I’m quite new to pastel pencils and have a set of 24 Carbothellos but wanted a wider colour range at an affordable price. I was so excited when these arrived. I agree with others who say a tin would have been preferable to a box but mine were all in good condition when I opened them up. The colours are fabulous, even on black paper. They are dustier than the Carbothellos (a bit more blowing dust away as you work involved) but they lay the colour down beautifully and blend & smudge really well. I read about possible problems with sharpening so bought a Conte sharpener specially for them so hope that will work well with them when it arrives. I’m attaching the first pic I did with them today, which should encourage beginners as it is full of mistakes but still able to make a lovely effect with these pencils! They were a joy to use & I hope to practise more & improve my skills. Delighted. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pencils themselves are lovely - a nice, crunchy *by B***U on 10 February 2015* Pencils themselves are lovely - a nice, crunchy, hard pastel that goes on and blends beautifully. Colour range is good, and colours lay down brightly too.The only downside is the packaging. It's a tin with a thin plastic insert (much like a chocolate box), which doesn't grip or cushion the pencils well. Pastel pencils are fragile by nature, and the tin really doesn't do much to prevent damage during transport or regular wear & tear. My pencils arrived with at least half of the points shattered, and it remains to be seen how the cores hold up as I use & sharpen them.
