The pieces are clearly printed on the flat tops and the magnets are strong but not in a way that makes you feel like you have to pry them apart to play. The fold is nice and you can mostly save a game in process if you have to but the pieces on the home rows will bump into each other a bit when fully closed. They don't move too much though and they don't fall off completely so the positions can be easily fixed. It's lightweight and made to travel so I don't feel like its trying to fall apart in any way. The pieces are small though so if you have eyesight issues, you might want to look for a set with the pieces printed larger or shaped like the classic pieces. Review: Great Portable Chess Sets for Different Needs - I own both the VentureBoard XL and the smaller 6-inch Black & Gray version, and both are excellent travel chess sets with their own advantages. If you have larger or thicker hands, I would recommend the VentureBoard XL. The larger playing surface and pieces are more comfortable to handle, and the recent update to the XL piece design makes it much easier to distinguish the king from the queen during play. The 6-inch Black & Gray version feels slightly more solid and less flimsy when opened. Its compact size makes it ideal for playing in a car, while traveling, or almost anywhere space is limited. Portability is where this model truly shines. The VentureBoard XL offers a more comfortable playing experience but is naturally less portable due to its larger size. My only suggestions for improvement would be: Add felt pads to the bottom of the chess pieces to help prevent scratches on the board. Add a non-slip material or rubber feet to the underside of the board to prevent it from sliding on smooth surfaces. I've owned the 6-inch version for about a month, and I have noticed that the board can develop scratches if the pieces are regularly slid across the playing surface. Overall, both sets are well-designed and highly enjoyable. The 6-inch version is the better choice for maximum portability, while the XL version is the better choice for comfort and ease of play. ## Features - Uniquely Designed Rolling Chess Set - Ventureboard is a unique 6-inch magnetic chess set that rolls up into a hard shell leaving the pieces in place! It unrolls from a compact shell with pieces stored in their starting positions so no set-up time is needed for chess. - Portable Chess Board – Perfect for travel, this chess set’s compact design makes it convenient to carry. Open size: 7.5-inch length x 6-inch width. Rolled up size: 3-inch diameter x 6-inch length. The innovative design allows you to keep the pieces in place and well organized, convenient for indoor and outdoor play. The folding chess board is easy to open and close, as well as very convenient to carry and store. - Chess Built for Adventure & Intelligence – This small, portable chess board gives your senses a much-needed break from the digital world. Whether in the car, after school or on the beach, you can play this magnetic chess set wherever their adventures bring them. - Premium Quality - A marvel of engineering, VentureBoard’s panels interlock on six different planes when rolled up making this the sturdiest chess board on the market. It includes 32 Chess Pieces, 2 Extra Queens, a Water-Resistant Bag and 2 Extra Blank Pieces with a Sticker Book for piece replacement. - Perfect Gift - This innovative chess set can be gifted for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, New Year and other occasions. The sleek design conceals the board game within, making it a great surprise for your family and friends. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0BB1249KW | | Best Sellers Rank | #44,036 in Toys & Games ( See Top 100 in Toys & Games ) #889 in Board Games (Toys & Games) | | Brand Name | VentureBoard | | CPSIA Cautionary Statement | Choking Hazard - Small Parts, Contains Small Magnets | | Color | Orange/Grey | | Customer Reviews | 4.7 out of 5 stars 366 Reviews | | Edition | Standard Edition | | Educational Objective | Enhance cognitive skills and strategic thinking | | Game Mechanics | area control, strategy | | Genre | Strategy | | Included Components | chess board, chess pieces | | Item Dimensions | 5 x 3 x 3 inches | | Item Dimensions L x W | 7.5"L x 6"W | | Item Type Name | Chess Board | | Manufacturer | VentureBoard | | Manufacturer Part Number | VB2022 | | Manufacturer recommended age | 36 months - 8 years | | Material Type | Plastic | | Minimum Age Recomendation | 15 | | Number of Items | 1 | | Number of Packs | 1 | | Number of Players | 2 | | Operation Mode | manual | | Rulebook Availability | Printed Included | | Set Name | VentureBoard | | Size | 7.5 x 6 inches (open), 3 x 6 inches (rolled up) | | Theme | Sport | | UPC | 665871409415 | | Unit Count | 37 Count | ## Images ![VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71TbzA4l1GL.jpg) ![VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - Image 2](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81Mr0mKdUjL.jpg) ![VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - Image 3](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81HcQwvvW5L.jpg) ![VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - Image 4](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/914bnhc6-0L.jpg) ![VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - Image 5](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81v5hX4rWNL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Color, Style** options. ## Questions & Answers **Q: What is the difference between the engraved and non-engraved versions? Do both have the coordinates on the sides?** A: I just emailed the manufacturer and received this answer: <> **Q: how well do the magnets stay in place? if it is jostled during travel will the pieces move or fall off the board?** A: I am able to put it in a bag and carry it around and it keeps the pieces positions. If you drop it, it of course will move a little bit but all in all there is a good magnetic connection. **Q: Is there a difference (besides price) between the orange and gray boards? Is one easier to play on?** A: Only have the b/w one but my guess why it is more expensive is just the coloring. More color dye used to make it orange. Otherwise dimensions are all the same and I really like the B/W one. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great travel set *by N***E on May 8, 2026* Such a cool thing to be able to take with me anywhere I might get bored. Conversely, it’s easily re-deployed when required. But will it preserve the chess piece positions? To a large extent, it will. Some of the positions will shift if this chess roll-up is bounced around in say a backpack. However, the preservation of the state of play is good enough. Yet, this isn’t its greatest strength. The important bit here is that it’s actually difficult to drop or loose a piece and there’s more. - The size and proportions of the set fills your perspective when this chess set is held in your hand. To your mind’s eye, it appears as a full-sized board thus making the game-play easier to appreciate. - Extra queens and two other extra pieces are included. - I’ve had the kit for two weeks now and it appears to be sturdy and well made. The inclusion of a tie-bag is a nice touch. - Delivery from Columbus, Ohio to my place in Europe was under three days - utterly amazing! ## Frequently Bought Together - VENTUREBOARD 6 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - 2 Extra Queens - Folding Board, Portable Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - Orange/Grey - VENTUREBOARD XL Full-Size 10 Inches Magnetic Unique Chess Set Board Game - Folding Board, Travel Chess Board Game Pieces - (Black/Grey) - How to Win at Chess: The Ultimate Guide for Beginners and Beyond --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ec/products/500000302-ventureboard-6-inches-magnetic-unique-chess-set-board-game-2](https://www.desertcart.ec/products/500000302-ventureboard-6-inches-magnetic-unique-chess-set-board-game-2) --- *Product available on Desertcart Ecuador* *Store origin: EC* *Last updated: 2026-10-18*
