It actually started to crack the metal. I drilled the end of the cracks and welded up and used this kit to reinforce the gate. The install wasn't terribly hard. I punched all the way through and run 5" 3/8 all tread through a plate in the back (table mount). I used factory size all tread on the bottom (5/16) Tightend everything and loped off the access all tread. Tailgate shuts tight. No rattle. Best part tis the hinge pins are easy to replace once they get loose.
