## Description

The Plot Grand Theft Auto IV is a brand new adventure in the GTA universe following the experiences of Nikolai "Niko" Bellic, a new immigrant from an undisclosed eastern European country whose troubled past and the persuasion of his cousin Roman have brought him to the fictional Liberty City. Unfortunately, Niko's search for the American Dream and a much needed fresh start, hits an immediate snag when the rags to riches story Roman spun to pique Niko's interest is exposed as not only a complete fabrication, but a ploy to enlist Niko's well-known skills as a tough guy against the ample list of enemies clamoring for Roman's debt-ridden blood. Because Roman is the only person Niko knows in Liberty City he begrudgingly accepts his role as Roman's protector despite the deception. But as time goes on Niko comes into his own, and his experience on the wrong side of the tracks proves more valuable than he could have ever imagined as he fights for survival and later supremacy on the crime ridden streets of Liberty City. Review: Great Game!! - Just bought this game for PC (XP with SP3) For a start I'll say that I'd ignore 'nearly' all the other negative comments on here!!! I've played about 20hours now and not one crash/blue screen/bug or anything negative. Maybe when this game was first released it did come with bugs, but I installed patch number 4 straight away before playing and this clearly fixed a everything, also I'm running on the latest graphics drivers and windows XP with SP3 so that'd help :P Really nice graphics in this game, a whole different league to the last proper GTA game (I've got every one from GTA2 onwards so yes i am a fan, yet also a critical reviewer) You DO need a reasonably good and upto date computer thought, I've only just built a new gaming computer so i don't have any problems but the game would be slow/unplayable with reasonably pretty graphics on an older computer. For reference my harware specs are: XP Service pack 3 3GHz intel E8400 core2 duo processor with artic cooling CPU cooler Overclocked Nvidia GTX260(216SP) graphics card (896MB VRAM) 4GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM I can play the game on high/very high settings @1920*1080res without any lag and about 35-40fps, although all the settings can go from low/medium/high/very high/highest so there is a lot of potential for better graphics still, but that'd take a very high end gaming computer. To run this game with average graphics you need a good core2 duo/quad processor as this game was designed for the multi core processors in games consoles, and is therefore quite heavy on your processor. A 2.8GHz core2 duo is the minimum I'd recommend...and you need quite a lot of 'dedicated' graphics memory, so 256MB just ain't gonna cut it whatever rockstar say...I've got 896MB VRAM but I think it'd run ok ish on 512MB with some reduced graphics settings. As many other have said here, the game is a pain to install. It takes a long time as it's a 16GB install. Then it needs to install the social club tool which you have to register with/log into to be able to even play the game. You'll also need to have a windows live account (you already have one if you use MSN) and it needs to have a 'gamer tag' linked to it, something I didn't have before. THEN you need to link your windows live account with the social club account before it'll even let you play. After I'd done all that and got playing I created a windows live offline account option (using the ingame windows live toolbar) so i can save my games while offline if i like (so ignore other complaining about that bit). SO the answer is YES, this game is a PAIN in the #%$ to install and get running (took me an hour or so), but it IS worth it. As for game play, to be a little critical the missions are a little bit repetitive (so far, I've only done about 20ish) they're all drive here, pick up X, take to Y, kill Z, etc but I'm clearly still enjoying it!! been playing it so much my eyes hurt!! Just driving around the huge map is so much fun, enjoying the mind blowing Physx and graphics in the game!! I'd recommend this game to anyone who likes driving games/GTA series/or just a fun game to play when you have some free time as you don't 'have' to do any mission, so it's perfect for when you have just 15mins free. BUT you should be careful if your computer isn't uptodate (software AND hardware wise) Hope someone finds this review at least a little bit useful, this game may have been bugged/unplayable when it was released, but it's a must buy now in my opinion!!
Review: Don't be put off by the bad reviews - You have probably seen all of the one-star reviews here already. But there's the problem with internet reviews. On the internet, nobody ever does an average review. To the internet reviewer, everything is either the greatest game ever made, or absolutley terrible and not worth the box that it came in. Personally, I don't see what everyone's complaining about. Yes, the installation process is horrible (trust me, I had to sit through it about 5 times). Yes, the game is bundled with a load of unnecessary crap such as GFWL and RGSC and yes, it comes with Securom. But does that really make it a bad game? Securom is not actually that restrictive, and none of these programs make playability any worse. When I first installed the game, I did have some major issues. For a start, it would randomly crash sometimes for no obvious reason. Hugely frustrating when you've just finished a mission and are about to save the game. Also, Independence FM, which was fantastic in San Andreas etc. tends to make the game crash between songs. The recent patch has fixed a few issues, and the random freezing is less frequent, but the custom radio still crashes the game. Other than these issues, the game is absoultely stunning. Fantastic graphics (even at medium settings), brilliant gameplay and a stunningly detailed environment that just feels alive. All of this is made more fun by the joy that is mouse aiming. Of course, you will find people moaning and whining about not being able to play the game on their PCs. Well, there is a sound reason for this and it is because of a general lack of knowledge about gaming PCs. People seem to assume that just because their PC was expensive, that they should be entitled to play the latest games on it. You don't need to have an expensive PC to play GTA IV, you simply need some knowledge of gaming hardware. For instance, a NVIDIA 9400 is NOT better than an 8600 just because the number is higher. To summarise, if you're a gamer and you KNOW that your PC meets the reccommended system requirements (note: you do NOT need a quad-core processor to run the game) then don't hesitate to buy this game. It's awesome. If you know sod-all about computers, buy an XBox. At least then you'll get to play the DLC. Either way, it would be a crime to miss out on this game. My system: Vista 32 AMD X2 6000+ 3.1GHz 3GB RAM ATi 3850 512mb Yes, that system runs the game like a dream.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can an hp laptop run this game?**
A: Yes and No. Yes because it's capable of running on any PC that is at least on a hardware level of the Xbox 360. And No because Rockstar shut down the support for verification code authorization. So if you want to be able to play this, you better be prepared to hack the certification and run the game cracked. Overall, just don't buy it because it's a hassle to crack the game just to be able to play it. Go for the Steam version if you can get it or the version on the Rockstar Launcher.

**Q: does this game play on windows xp? thanks**
A: If your computer is strong enough it will. Yes.

### ⭐ Fantastic game. Poorly delivered
*by J***H on 3 December 2008*

EDIT: Wanted to rate it 2 stars. It doesent let you change the rating when you edit an existing reivew. Don't get me wrong. This a great game. It just doesent work for PC. The game itself: It plays pretty much like all the other GTA's, so you know what to expect. A huge game environment within which you can do pretty much whatever you want. I won't go over the top, you know what it's like. Simply epic. To be honest though, the game is very poorly delivered. Let's start with the graphics. They are, as mentioned before, better than the console counterparts; provided you have the mother-of-all PC's that is. On my current setup: Dual core E4500 @ 2.5Ghz 2gb ram XFX GeForce 9600GT XXX Edition The game perfoms poorly. Even with the latest drivers and game patches I get 27/8 FPS tops, with very bad stuttering at times. Anywhere on the middle island, i get a maximum of 22 FPS, usually hovering around 18-20. This even means that what im getting higher FPS (by the sea for example) it still appears laggy. Any CPU worse than mine? Don't even think about it. After about 30-60 mins of gameplay i get a very brief pausing after every few frames, which is annoying at best. In short, the game is very poorly optimised and the patches seem to decrease performance if anything. All this, and on the absolute LOWEST graphical settings. Other graphical issues include a lack of anti-aliasing, and strange 'dissolving' textures when they enter/leave your level of detail. Its sort of hard to explain. It's also common with everyone, no matter what settings you have. To be honest these issues reduce the enjoyability of the game by a huge amount. Ignore all this talk about DRM. It hasnt had any impact on my gameplay experience whatsoever. A not-so-well-known fact is that nearly all games made over the past couple of years use some form of DRM/Securom. Don't let it influence your decision whether to buy the game or not. Installing. Some people have claimed this game takes 1-2 hours to install. If that's the case, your computer has some SERIOUS problems. In fact, the game takes 20-30 mins at the most on my PC, and you can see from my specs it's not a particularly fast PC. Once you've sorted out GFWL and Social Club, you can play right away. Other issues When you shut down the game, it can take up to 2 minutes for you to be able to use your PC again as the game seems to be doing things even after you've stopped playing it. Online mode is fun, the only limit to Free Ride is your imagination; but poor performance offline means TERRIBLE performance online with a lot of players (10+ player street races for example. In these i got 15-20 fps). On a lighter note, the radio is fantastic, there's a seemingly endless amount of stations for you choose from, this makes it a triumph (Not just for its music, but the hilarious radio ads and DJ's). When you get bored of them, you can listen to your own music collection using "Indepence FM". This is a great inclusion for us PC gamers. It's a great game, I just feel like I can't enjoy at as much as I should because of the (performance) issues. More often than not, I play the game, do a few missions/wreck a few cars, and get bored almost straight away. I don't know why, the game just doesent seem as interesting as it should be. At the moment i'd rather play games like Team Fortress 2, CoD4, or Supreme Commander. I don't know what it is, GTA IV doesent seem to keep me interested for long. If you have a good enough PC, if you love the GTA series, go for it, you won't regret it, trust me. If you have a slow/mediocre PC, you might find yourself regretting this purchase, no matter how much you like GTA.
