HOT, FAST!! Be careful!
I needed emergency heated water outdoors in frigid temps, and I needed it fast. I am very well pleased with this immersible heater but PLEASE BE CAREFUL! This unit gets hot REALLY FAST! In less than 30 seconds of being plugged in, it will burn your skin so please follow instructions. Do NOT let kids use this unit. It can heat a 5 gallon bucket of water from a skin of ice on top to 167 f (75C) in mere minutes. Then it shuts itself off. Because of how powerful this heater is, I can absolutely understand how you would not want to use it in any situation that you are not present. For my purposes, it worked flawlessly in sub-freezing weather. The quality seems good, but the instructions state that there is a red indicator light that lets you know it is on....um...no, there is no red light. The cord length is rather short, but the instructions clearly state that it is safe to use an extension cord---CAVEAT--- MAKE SURE YOUR EXTENSION CORD CAN HANDLE THE WATTAGE. And even then, that extension cord might get a little warm. Mine did. I appreciate the auto shut-off and the apparent durability. The bright yellow color is attractive as well. I think this unit is well worth the money. It certainly helped me on the farm.

Use some common sense and it will work as advertised
Most of the reviews about the device catching fire can be narrowed down to improper use. The heater needs to be FULLY submerged to operate. This includes the yellow cap and part of the cable (Plug stays high and dry). Will heat a 5 gallon bucket really quickly and can heat a hot tub or a kiddy pool with some time. Will not heat a pool. The thermometer is accurate, but the water can heat unevenly in a hot tub compared to a bucket so to get accurate readings, measure from many areas or mix up the hot tub. Worked fine with no over-heating from my extension cable rated for 1625W 125V 13Amp, but would still recommend connecting to a fused outlet. Do not leave unattended.

Avoid for safety reasons…
I really wanted this item to work for heating extra water for a hot tub. I filled a five gallon bucket with sixty degree water. I came back in thirty minutes. The supplied thermometer said the temperature was now seven degrees. The bucket felt much warmer so I tried a thermometer I trusted. It said onehundred twenty degrees. Decent progress but not near the heating rate promised. If you go ahead and buy one of these, buy a thermometer you trust. You will need it.I came back about fifteen minutes later. The temperature was now onehundred forty degrees but the heater wasn’t on. I noticed that the bathroom ground fault device had tripped. I reset it and it immediately tripped again. This happened several times. I touched the cord’s plug and found it almost too hot to touch. I unplugged the plug from the outlet and saw there was some black and brown discoloration. This happens due to either overheating or sparking in the outlet. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the working of ground fault, here’s a short explanation. The ground fault measures how much electricity is going out into the circuit and compares it to how much is coming back. If there’s more than a five milliamp difference, the device trips. This means there an electrical loss in the circuit. You don’t know where or how much. All you know is that the amount of loss is at or more than enough to make the device trips. That’s a lot of unknowns for something being used with water. My advice is to not buy this heater. In addition to the thermometer issue, I have doubts about its safety.I’d give it a zero rating if allowed.

In the grand scheme of things, this item does the job!
Tried it out on a 5 gallon bucket and it took about 19 minutes and 7 seconds to get to 120° (still pretty good speed for a portable). Starting temp was 68.4°I then tried it in our bathtub and filled up the tub about halfway and the water temperature was 70°It took 1 hour and 12 minutes to reach 80° (still pretty good especially since our water heater went out on us).Of course, make sure that the device is completely submerged in the water before plugging it in!Pros:-Portable and convenient-Item cools off pretty quickly after useCons:-The cord can get a little warm

great quick item when you want to keep things from freezing
It's mid Jan here and my hot tub control box quit working after a power outage. It now keep tripping the GFI. Too cold now to remove the panel and replace/repair the unit with 13-30 deg outside. So I got this to keep the water from freezing and hoped it would keep that large volume at least above freezing. I came back 2 days later to check to see if it worked and the temp was 110 deg which is hotter than the actual unit will make it. Saved me a lot of money and effort from not having to repair broken plumbing pipes. Seeing this I only wish it had a low/med/high setting now. It's just a plug in and go unit but works great.

Not for the irresponsible, slower than advertised (much), a little sketch too possibly.
Got this heater with a battery operated pump shower system. It's a lot of power generated really quickly, typical of heating elements. The time it took to get a 5 gallon tub that came with the shower system took about 20 minutes to get from 45 degrees Fahrenheit to 99.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Everything about this heater made me nervous to use from the directions to the reviews. I understand directions just covering their rears with liability so with any electricity and hot objects use common sense and best practices. I plugged it into a surge protector that I have to not blow my fuse and the surge protector made a clicking noise while using so prob won't try that method again. It's an older 5 year old protector without much use. The cord did get warm to touch, not scorching or even hot but noticeably warm. Wish the cord was longer due to arrangement of outlets in bathroom. Def nowhere near the quick times that they advertised with my particular heater. It does work, much slower than advertised, and it is sketchy to use but that may be my own anxiety after reading reviews etc. Def not something to leave for any duration of time without watching while in use. Did not burn my water tubs that like rubber or the same material as rain ponchos or inflatable pools.
