I don't see any reason why you wouldn't be able to do 2 or 3 hour tapes but cannot say for sure. **Q: Will this record 4:3 footage in 4:3 or will it stretch it?** A: As far as I'm aware, you can set the ratio before capture - but it also seems to capture "As is - 4:3" if that is the original recording aspect. **Q: Can it transfer vhs tapes that are 3 or 4 hours long** A: Whilst I haven't tried 3-4 hour long tapes I don't see why it wouldn't work for that duration. The documentation claims it will record up to 1 hour, or if you want longer recordings contact the manufacturer for a software update. The one I bought recently recorded a continuous Video8 source of almost 2 hours with no issues with no software update, so I'm assuming the new firmware is installed on newer devices. If you experience any issue you can always start and stop the VHS source and recorder after say 90 minutes which would create two recordings. The only disadvantage is that it saves as mp4 files only. Other file extension options would have made this product perfect. Good picture quality (although this depends on the source VHS tape), good size and value for money. Saving directly to USB stick or memory card, means that the video files can be played on most modern tv’s from these memory devices. DVD burning capabilities are needed to transfer files onto DVD (make sure your software can accommodate mp4).
