The Aquila 21U belongs to Aquila’s new Nylgut series, a series designed to reproduce the promptness of attack and brilliance of timbre that characterize original gut strings. Aquila aimed to design a synthetic string that has the same acoustic properties a gut, but without its typical limitations. The new Nylgut series allows the player to rediscover the sonorities familiar to the great 19th and 20th century ukulele masters, while guaranteeing a stability of tuning higher than that of the even the best gut and nylon strings. Until the mid-20th century Ukuleles were mounted exclusively in gut, a material that had been used for thousand of years and that combines excellent promptness of attack with brilliance of timbre - very different, in other words, from modern nylon strings.

**Q: What is the best Baritone Ukulele book for a beginner who knows some music theory?**
A: Baritone Ukulele from Scratch by Bruce Emery. He is hands down the best music educator and string teacher that I have come across for ukes, guitars, etc. Believe me as I have bought just about all of them. Bruce marries the theory with the chords, etc. He clearly demonstrates how to play the entire neck of the uke. He has written many books and I have found them all to be the best that I have come across as a beginner/intermediate player.

**Q: Any reason you couldn't tune the D (low D) string to high D?**
A: Don't do it. You will ruin the strings or warp the fretboard, or both. Only use strings made for the instrument you are using tuned to the pitch they are designed for. Even something as seemingly harmless as putting steel strings on a guitar made for nylon strings can cause ireparable harm to your instrument even if you tune it the same.  If you want a high D, try finding a high D set.

**Q: Is it possible for a ukelele to have just one fret that creates a nasty buzzing sound?**
A: Well, I'm late to the party, lol. Cello and bass players sometimes use very tiny bits of very flat, thin leather or some such. Loosen the string enough to get a bit under it, assuming it'll slide forward some as you tighten. The bit might raise the string just enough to clear the fret, although it will very slightly dampen the sound. I'd try both ends where the string hits and see what works best.
