Also had a tender ganglion cyst on the outside edge of my foot that those straps pulled exactly across and irritated. These can be tightened with the Velcro tabs across the foot and made as tight or as loose as you want-I like that I can loosen the toe area while the rest is nice and snug. As for arch, interestingly, I am flat footed, TOTALLY, and in a regular shoe I measure 9.5 to 10 6AAA (my feet are so narrow my friends used to joke "you don't want her kicking you...her feet are like knifes! " But relative to fit with these I buy an 8, because with the substantial arch it shortens the length of my foot considerably and the smaller 8 size helps narrow it overall too so they fit snug and offer better support.
